Anyone know anything about wireless control electric panel radiators (these are the Italian ones)? I'm interested in what the running costs are like compared with a gas or oil fired wet system. Thanks, AL
Electric heating is bloody expensive. Are you looking at it got your house , if your not near the gas mains then consider oil. My home is heated using a grant vortex condensing oil boiler, the home is fully zoned , rads have thermostatic valves fitted and each zone controlled via wall mounted thermostat , my cylinder is zoned and thermostatically controlled. I've a fully insulated home and also have two wood burner stoves. My cooker is an oil fired Rayburn range and I've also a wood / coal burning Rayburn in my garage. My heating is as cheap as chips to run and currently according to oftec (the oil version of gas safe) oil is slightly cheaper to run than gas.
Also al I've seen adverts for these miracle electric radiators that promise so much. It's basic physics a kW can only make so much heat full stop.
Air sourced he pumps..aircon in reverse is the 2nd cheapest way to heat your home. This is why most of Northern Europe use them. Mains gas is cheaper, next is ac, then oil, then bottled gas and electricity is the most expensive.....running costs only, Air con ...for each £1 spent on the electricity you'll get £4 worth of heat, when compared to direct electric heaters.
Your right. I didn't take into account the burning of unfossilised carbon based fuels (road kill) in my executive summary.
Aircon you must have forgotten to factor in the furry animal fuel option in your heating calculations, I'm thinking you've had a bang to the head in your accident. Did they shine the torch in one ear and check if light came out the other lol. Hoping your ok . . . Idb
Thanks for the sensible comments..........the radiators I'm talking about are the lightweight aluminium panel ones that are individually programmable and can be controlled by Bluetooth and wireless, even when you are out and about, as well as sitting down watching TV...........they can be coupled with underfloor electric heating. This is because I am thinking of moving from a 2000 sq.ft detached house with 16 radiators oilfired wet system and 22 window openings (900 litres of oil every six weeks in the winter periods)......to a 1000 sq.ft house with some ground floor underfloor electric heating and about five electric panel radiators....only 8 windows, three of which are 'covered' by a triple glazed conservatory.
Underfloor heating is very nice - but is probably just about the most inefficient way possible of keeping things warm...
Yep, JR45...........I'm not sure about just keeping my feet warm..............I usually wear boots most of the time......it's ME that feels the cold.....
Underfloor is good in high ceiling buildings , but our climate is very variable and as a result on a warm day after a cold day people use the British thermostat. Open the windows.
