Hi all, Not been around for a while as I have been abusing an Aprilia Tuono. So long story short, since buying an F800ST for commuting duties (The Tuono would bankrupt me) my wife started showing an interest in coming out on the Beemer to the point now where she fancies a better bike for pillion work so am thinking of adding a Mutley alongside the 998. My question is, in the early Mutley there were tails of the electronic suspension having questionable reliability and I am wondering if this is still the case in which case do I stick with non-electronic suspension or is it all sorted now and I can saving winding on a bit pf preload when she comes out? Any comments or better still experience would be greatly appreciated. Fuggers
Sorry, what age bike are you considering? New? Used? DVT? My 2017 Standard DVT is bloody good. Easy to wind on the preload if I’m adding the missues too. I tested an S (electronic suspension) before I bought and found it exceptional. But budget made me stick with the standard. I don’t regret it.
Sorry yes that would of been useful info.... I would love an 18PP but financially I couldn't justify the expense plus that would mean manual suspension adjustments. The reality is likely to be a 2015-17 DVT secondhand.
The skyhook system is very good indeed. It is also reliable and apart from a recall to replace an overstretched rear sensor wire a few years back I've yet to see a post on a failure. I'd recommend getting a bike with it if you can stretch to an S model. It adjusts so well that it matches its response to the type of riding you are doing as you are doing it - eg softer for slow bumpy roads or taughter for fast riding. You have a suspension guru onboard who adjusts the shocks in real time.
I’m still considering which one to go for. I’ve seen a nice 2014 PP for just over a £11k and I do like the look of them with the extra bling but generally the opinion seems to be a DVT S is the way to go....and for the same money, for a 15 plate. Ducati Coventry seem to have a few good deals on ex demo S’s
Well I am for a well sorted ÖHLINS manual suspension but if you will be constantly changing settings due to weight and or pillion then the electronic SACHS is the way to go. I have it on the Enduro and it’s very good indeed.
Having purchased a 16 shyhook S version in September with 1200 miles it’s an awesome bike, so much so in April i will get a new version, the suspension is something to be believed.
My personal sweet spot is still the original Öhlins with the semi-active SCU - it’s not as sophisticated as the DVT S Sachs but has better feel, if that’s what rocks your boat. That said, the Skyhook on the DVT works very well indeed, and I’d probably go for that over the manual-only Öhlins on the later PP. I’d also go for DVT S Skyhook over the earlier PP Skyhook on the twinspark.
