1200 Engine Errors Problem

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Suffolk Duke, Feb 25, 2024.

  1. Started the bike yesterday and Errors Engine appears on the display. The bike started ok and seems to run ok but I have not taken her for a spin yet. The Yellow engine management light is on as well as Errors Engine. I also had a key Battery Low message I doubt that its connected.

One weird thing though, when I pushed the red button down and then back up, the engine started automatically - maybe the start button is a bit sticky? Could this cause the error? I have taken it apart and tweaked the button spring as well as cleaned with contact spray. It still seems a bit 'sticky' but the bike starts now as it should using the button.

The bike has been in the garage for several months now, with a full tank of petrol with additive. Last time she was started she was fine. I started her again this morning a run her up and down the close and she seems ok.

Any ideas that I could check before taking to a dealer?

I also added a this message to a previous post on the same subject where some people have found a MAP sensor issue.

  2. A simple thing to check is that the exhaust valve is opening and closing ok (if it’s still got one, although not sure if that throws up a fault anyway?), beyond that without plugging in and reading the error code it’s just guessing. When I had a faulty Map sensor it ran ok but the exhaust gasses smelt a bit rich and it would back fire occasional on tick over.

I bought an OBD lead and downloaded the software to diagnose the fault as at the time my local Ducati dealer was 50miles away, ordered the part and fixed it myself.

  3. Thanks Ackers. Its a Pikes Peak with a full Termi exhaust so will this have an exhaust valve?

  4. Then no, I don’t think it does.

  5. Thanks again for reply. It is expensive to buy the OBD cable and software?

She is due new belts so I could get the dealer to check when I take her in.

  6. Software is free, cable/obd readers are about £30, but if it’s going in for a service soon you might as well let them do it

  7. UPDATE - error checked during recent service and the fault was a MAP sensor, which the dealer had in stock and replaced so now all ok.
Hope this might help someone else.
