Track day tomorrow at Brands, just been out on my 749s to fill up and check tyres etc and the engine starts spluttering and misfiring around 5k, Noticed EBOD light on when experiencing these symptoms and then off as the fault seems to clear temporarily. I rode the bike about 8 miles with the fault kicking in and out hoping that it might clear . I did manage to get it to go without these symptoms for a few minutes but then they kept kicking back in. Tried getting the error code by holding down left hand button whilst turning ignition on and holding it down while the instruments ran through there stuff. I have noticed that number 5 is seen in the bottom left hand corner of the instrument display but then the screen goes onto the normal stuff that you see when Ignition is on. Any advice as to what might be causing the problems appreciated. Bike is a 2004 model, now done 26k and has been pretty much faultless in the 4 years I have owned it, had the valves reshimmed at 20k. Feels like it could be an electrical problem, I did clean out the injectors when I did a belt change at 24k, could this be bad connection to one of the injectors? Also if I have registered my Ducati to ride at Brands, Would it be possible to do a substitution and ride my Honda XL600 in place of the Ducati? btw I didn't fill up with fresh fuel, and have now remembered that the bike had the symptoms a few days ago for a few seconds but then cleared and all was o.k! Now had both plugs out for inspection, all normal, fresh fuel added to top up the liter or so that was in there, still same issues.
I had a totally flat battery a few days ago, I assumed i had left the parking light on, so removed battery, charged it on my optimate and all seemed fine after in that the bike started straight away. That's the only thing that has happened recently that I could see having some influence on the symptoms I'm experiencing.
Yep, did the track day, on my ancient Honda XL600 with nobbly tyres, which have about as much feel as wooden hoops! What prevented you from doing the day, engine issues too?
Nah, bike was fine. A combination of other factors conspired against me! Never mind - next time.. Glad you got out there. R
Yes Paul, a great deal of fun. I thrashed the poor thing mercilessly for all the sessions. Considering the thing had been standing outside in a builders yard for 2 years corroding away until I got hold of it recently I think it did rather well. The front knobbly tyre is made of Nylon, and I had no idea what pressures might be appropriate. Convinced I was going to loose the front everytime I went round Paddock hill bend ,but despite a few little twitches, it seemed to be not too bad. Got lapped a few times though!
