Hi, want to change open cans back to std and have got std chip- anything I need to watch/do when changing it over? Discharge and static charge etc? Do I need special plastic tweezer type tool? Cheers!
You need to ensure that "you" are at the same electrical potential as the ECU and any internal parts of the ECU you are going to come into contact with and you must not be isolated from ground (earth). Typically you can "touch off" on the metal parts or wear a wrist strap with lead and crocodile clip. If you are absolutely sure you have minimised the risk of a static discharge, bare fingers are always good but you might not be able to grip the eprom well enought to pull it out absolutely vertical to reduce the risk of bending the pins. Anyone experienced just does it but as it is your first experience, caution with a sensible amount of confidence is best. Inserting the stock eprom needs a little extra caution to ensure that the pins are all lined up before pushing it home. It's not high end electronics so if you are sensible there should be no problem. Good luck, Andy
I've just done mine. Glad yours went in all OK, mine was a bit fiddly 'cause the legs of the chip wern't properly aligned. Only thing I was going to say was you also need to know which way round it goes (Pin 1) is with the dimple at the end of the chip, which matches the mark on the circuit board.
