  2. Will be using that one on my Hungarian colleague this morning, he was getting quite animated last night !

  3. You don't have to watch it or get involved. I don't like films, drama, soaps or 99% of shite on TV. So guess what?? I don't watch it!!
I love sport, footie included, news and documentaries so watch that instead. Simples.
    And oh, c'mon England!

  4. or , if your a football fan you could change that to " I just don't see the point of people driving round and round in circles for no money whilst some fall off and hurt themselves "

I like both but in truth I prefer club football and feel absolutely nothing for the national team.

  5. spot on

  6. Interesting. How come?

  7. I used to like football and had a season ticket for years, but I don't watch England anymore unless they get far into a tournament.

I find it harder to like these because of the behaviour of the people involved. I was over the moon when Leicester won the Premier League, it was a bit of a bop on the nose for a few inthe sport.

Anyhoo. I just liked Guy's take on it and still support my team and want the national team to do well.

  8. I'm exactly the same, but don't ask me to explain it. I can't.

The last time I was really into the national team, was Italia 90. Since then, I've been detached from them for some reason. It always strikes me as a London thing. Isn't this why the FA started to take England matches out to other stadiums around the country, to engage with fans in ither regions? Or was it when Wembley was being rebuilt? Or a bit of both?

  9. My old man was a footballer.........

What with him trying to teach me to play and it dominating the radio and TV, I became pretty sick of it.........

    So I played Rugby intead.

  10. It wasn't for St. James' Park was it? I had a season ticket for years too.... At Elland Road. So I know where you're coming from :grinning::grinning::grinning::cry:

  11. Two reasons for me;

    1) I couldn’t think of a worse bunch of people to associate myself with than the england fans. "Ten german bombers" etc etc? Its 2016 ffs. Get a grip.

    2) 50 weeks of the year the same fans I’m supposed to be standing side by side with are calling me a rat eater/dole scrounger/self pity city/murderer/wall pusher etc etc...

I had absolutely no sympathy when I was watching them getting terrorised by the Russians. I believe they call it getting a dose of your own medicine.

This all stems back as far as when i used to watch my hero (John Barnes) getting racially abused by the england "faithful". I have no reason to think anythings changed in over 30 years. Theyre welcome to each other,

  16. maybe the charming no 9 will be sharing a cell with some nice ruskies tonite , while his tearful father is on national tv pleading his innocence,,, enjoy ..

  17. serious disconnect with England Football team. from mine, and many I know, perspective it is a London based thing just for the entertainment of those in and around the capital.

FA had a chance to make the national side more reflective of the nation as a whole when knocking the old wembley down, but blew it by rebuilding in the same inconvenient corner of the country.

several options were on the table, from something purpose built in central England, to a roaming team playing at regional stadia (thus possibly forcing the big regional sides to expand their grounds to be able to bid for these games).

I am more of a rugby fan, and as such struggle with the whole fan violence and out and out bigotry thing (except where Australia are concerned - they just seem to redefine the term "Whinging" :tearsofjoy: ) having sat alongside rival fans shared banter and booze in the realisation that getting angry does nothing for the result as it is the team on the pitch that wins or loses, not you the spectator, and therefore you should be there 90% for entertainment and 10% partisan (IMHO).

    Pete

  18. I know an ex professional rugby league player who played at top level. I once asked him what he thought the main difference was between football & rugby.
    His answer?
"Football is 90 minutes of pretending you are hurt. Rugby is 80 minutes of pretending you're not"
