Evotech Tail Tidy Installation

  1. Planning on fitting it this weekend, any tips ?

  2. I got one on the way, I picked the evo tech as it seemed to be genuinely designed for the bike. Hopefully I can learn from your mistakes o_O I have seen a you tube fitting video.

  3. I was glad that I'm handy with a soldering iron & heat-shrink when fitting an Evotech tail tidy to my Hyper. Otherwise all good:upyeah:

  4. Obviously I made a few.....biggest was that first time I didn’t do something right and then rounded off one of the small M4 Allen bolts as I’d over tightened it and used threadlock ! Thankfully my easy outs made light work of that. Still not sure if it’s right as the instructions aren’t brilliant but I have the connector for the number plate light sat inside one of the indicator housings, also there is very little room for the wiring (the DP indicator wires are really long) so it’s easiest to pull the indicator wiring up through the seat housing and then position them when you’ve got the evotech base plate fitted. There are also gaps around the base plate so I’ve used insulation strips to cover the gaps from the inside that should keep the worst of the water that the back tyre throws up from getting into the wiring ! Much neater than some other solutions I’ve seen on other forums like mastic ! Hope that helps

  5. Mine has just turned up, lots of bits and no instructions !

  6. Download them from the web site but be warned, it’s just a sequence of pictures. Andy

  7. JUst found the instructions on Evotech website

  8. I shall set aside plenty of time and have the swear box on the work bench. :)

  9. The instructions look like they were drawn in charcoal and then someone smudged them all just before uploading them

  10. Well busy weekend fitted Evotech tail tidy, crash bungs and an alarm. Alarm is cheap as chips just to make a noise, £23 ebay. Crash bungs were also e bay but fit well and look quite smart. The tail tidy was as everyone said a faff, but its all done and working and looks much better. i did seem to have a small flat steel plate and some plastic washers left over that I just did not seem to need. Not sure what I missed, but it all seems good. Now just need to ride the bloody thing.

  11. The flat plate is there for when this kit is fitted to a monster, as for the washers did you spot that two of them go on the number plate light although those are more like spacers

  12. And which crash bungs have you put on ?

  13. No did not spot that, I will have a look, although it all went together fine and dos not look wrong, cheers.
The crash bungs were Chinese from eBay which Crash bungs.jpg 20210321_150829.jpg 20210321_150811.jpg I quite liked the look of and at £85 were a saving on R&G type. Did not want to drill holes in the fairing either. I am pleased with the finish and they fit well and will protect the engine cases. No instructions though and it took a fair bit of figuring out where they went. I am happy with the final result.

  14. Interesting, I’ve got the same ones saved in my ebay, the washers on the number plate light take a bit of pressure of the electrical cable where it bends into the housing

  15. Ah cheers, I will fit them then. The crash bungs are on ebay now for under £60. Easy to fit but let me know how long it takes you to work out how if you get some. :)

  16. I’m in two minds about bungs, low speed drop they save your fairings, high speed they can do more damage but everything’s probably going to be knackered anyway so that’s a question of how big the insurance claim is rather than do you claim. I think I’m gonna leave the pillion pegs on and prey that they and the bar ends save me if I drop it at low speed !

  17. Last year i was knocked off my ZRX at relatively low speed 30-40mph. The bike slid for a bit and the rear footrest hanger and the bars held the bike up pretty well. But the engine cases were damaged. This caused it to be a write off and a CAT N bike. Its repaired now and I have fitted engine bars. I think if I had had the bars fitted at the time I would have avoided the write off and N categorisation.

  18. I can confirm there is not much damage to fairing if you have pillion pegs.
Anyway, how long did it take you to fit the tail tidy? Mine is vibrating so much on low speed that I'm thinking about switching to evotech.

  19. Took about hour and half, easy enough. Fits well and solid. I would recommend it.

  20. Top tips are 1, make sure to use thread lock. 2, it’s not clear in the instructions but the white connectors for the number plate light sits in the indicator housing, 3 be careful with the small M4 nuts as they are easy to round off the head, 4 Pull the indicator wires up through the frame into the seat housing and once you have cover plate on push them down and tidy them up. 5, you’ll have gaps around the base plate, you may want to use some sort of tape backed foam strips to try and stop some of the inevitable crap getting up under the seat - in theory it’s quick to install but the above should mean you don’t keep having to take it apart and redo it like I did -
