Evr Slipper Clutch From A 1098 Onto A 748

  1. Hello all,
    Back with another question!
    So I’ve just bought a slipper clutch which was previously fitted to a 1098s.
    After researching I now know the centre but is a different size so I’ll need one to fit the 748 but on other posts I’ve seen there is debate on stack height and “over slipping”
    The unit I have has 3mm retainer washers for the springs- am I going to need thicker ones?

  2. Centre nut is a different size, as you mentioned.
    Regarding the spring washers - not sure of the thickness you need. I suggest starting with the ones you have already.
    I would expect that it’s the spider spring that controls the amount of “slip” (while downshifting/overrun). The 6 x clutch springs would control the effort required to release the clutch and whether it slips under power.
    This is based on the assumption that the EVR clutch works in a similar way to a DP/Bucci/STM system.

    I’m lead to believe this particular clutch does not use spider springs, not entirely sure what it uses instead but the manufacturer claims it requires no periodic maintenance.

    on the other posts I’ve seen the OP was saying it was slipping under acceleration so I guess I’ll just have to try it out as you said and see if I need thicker retainers!

  4. The nut is still available from Ducati and is about £22. Changing spring collars is a 15 minute job so not a biggy to experiment to get the performance that suits you. I’ve just fitted a wet version of the EVR to my Multistrada which I’m hoping is going to increase the affects of engine braking. Andy

  5. don't know much but I did know that on thinking about it Richard, Edo Vigna products are excellent and i've read somewhere he claims to have virtually invented the slipper clutch. I thought about treating myself to a sintered/top of the castle one but a lot of dosh. That nice young man who pops in here from time to time rates them highly.

  6. He did invent the Bucci slipper clutch and went on to work for Ducati before going it alone. Andy

  7. yes, that's the bit. :upyeah:^ - easily researched. :) I believe the article/snippet I read went into detail previous to the Bucci.

  10. although as said, overall genius stuff - getting into Anorak, on std "Bucci" type - they were daft to do that first (spidery) spring (omo) and second one a much needed improvement. I'm stuck with early spring as not interchangeable and so stress ("raiser")relieve radiuses on mine fitted (and spare) to try and help prevent the eventual, inevitable fracture.
