749 Exhaust Change

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by bluey, Aug 11, 2015.

  1. If I change my exhaust to the type with two single cans what do I do with the number plate and indicator lights? Do I need an extra bracket or anything?

    Thanks, Bluey.

(collecting bike early next week :) )

  2. OK so today I collected the 749 and I have ordered a pair of cans to replace the standard can. What else do I need?

As far as I can see the number plate and lights are connected to the standard exhaust?? Am I right?

What do I do with the number plate and lights once I fit the new cans?

    Help!!

  3. Has nobody ever fitted their own exhaust?

  4. You are right, the number plate and the lights are connected to the cans.

If your new cans are designed for the 749 they will either have mounting holes in the correct places to transplant the brackets from your original can to the new can. If not then your new cans will contain new brackets.

  5. Ok, great thanks for the info. I will have to see what the kit includes I guess and go from there.

  6. Are you just replacing the end cans?
I maybe wrong here, but i think you will need to look at de-cating the lower exhaust from the horizontal cylinder.
I'm sure the standard box exhaust has a cat built into the boxing for the vertical cylinder. The horizontal is in the pipe. (You should see a bulge in the exhaust where it is installed.
If you do not remove both then i am sure you will cause an issue with the running of your bike.

    Regards, Dave.

  7. The Italians don't make it easy eh!

  8. Think carefully about the two pipes as they do not all look good ( only my opinion )

  9. Yes agreed. Termi's just ain't worth that much dough, its a rip off quite honestly.

  10. If this doesnt work out I'll return the kit and make something from the OE exhaust. ;)

  11. How do you remove the cat from this link pipe ? I'm in the stages of fitting a termi end can only and was unaware if this. What would happen if I just left it in ?

  12. All I know is if there is one CAT per cylinder both would need removing for sure. I have a manual on CD coming soon so I should know for sure soon before I take it apart and find I get stuck.

  13. Well I have hopefully just found the bargain of the century. A decat front pipe, just around the corner, £30 :)

  14. I had a pair of casoli twin pipes on my old 749. They looked good and sounded awesome ( definitely much louder than the full race termi system on my current 749r) To fit the lights and number plate I dropped a thin custom bracket I made secured at the top to the pillion seat lock bolts. I don't have a pic of the bracket, but it was pretty much 2 bolts at the top a cylinder going down in between the pipes and a bolt at the bottom. Sorry I can't be of more help, but it was pretty easy to make a bracket from 'bits' lying around the garage. The actual rear light assembly and indicator looked better turned upside down. image.jpg

  15. Perfecto. This is exactly how mine should look when done.

  16. Here is what arrived in the kit this morning.

  17. Nice ,,,,, ( ser 1 frame , ser 2 black box )

  18. Mmmmm, shiney !!!!!

  19. When Ducati stopped making the yellow 749 they made 60 2006 bikes with the updated engine new fairings and swingarm etc... and used the last few grey frame and grey wheels from the 2005 bike. At the time I preferred the grey frame, though it looks a but dated now and the red frame has grown on me.

  20. Removal depends on the individual, some cut and weld a new section in or if you are lucky you can get one already done. Only thing to note here is the year/ model of yours. i.e swing arm, deep or shallow sump (if it's an R).

Not 100% certain on what the effect is, but it will change the exhaust flow for sure as the cat is a restriction. So effectively you would get a faster exhaust flow from the de-cated section. How this reflects on fueling and performance i'm not sure maybe someone else more knowledgeable could say. I'd personally like to know that the exhaust flow on both sections are as equal as possible getting the best out of the system.
