Exhaust Silencer Swap Issue

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Bobagoat46, Mar 12, 2020.

  1. I’m swapping my std silencers for some Termignoni carbons but there aren’t any brackets for the heat shield.
Any ideas how I can make heat shield fit without brackets?

  2. make some brackets and get them welded on

  3. I take it that’s the only way?

  4. it'll look ugly with say a jubilee clip holding on the bracket..

  5. build it up and get it to a welder two bits of stainless round bar with a 6mm thread in the centre to bolt the guard to ...only need a tack rather than a big weld

you can then offer up your current guard make sure it fits i think there are at least two different shapes curves

  6. Those are the heat shield mounts on the pipe. You need a different heat shield. Andy

  7. Which heat shield do I need Andy?

  8. I'll see if I can dig one out and take a photo. Andy

Don't know the part number but I'm pretty sure this goes with 50mm carbon end cans for the 748 and 996. Andy

  11. you can get that carbon heat shield in both shapes..hence post 5.

  12. I have been riding a 748 without that heat shield for nearly 13 years, you don't need it. Just need the heel plate and the heat shield that sits behind it. I think it was not a standard fitting on 748s and 996s or at least on the later versions of those bikes.

  13. Have you got a picture of the heel guard and heat shield that sits behind?

  14. How does it secure to exhaust?

  15. Bob, 2 x M6x1 'special screws' which fit through some spacers with heat resistant washers into the bosses welded to the upper part of the standard collector

  17. Or don't bother to fit the upper heat shield and just go with the lower one
