Exhaust swap over Vs Purchase

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by pegboy, May 13, 2013.

  1. I have been after an Exhuast system for some time now for my 749s.

I have now come across another 749 (Not S) with a full system 53mm Termi exhaust.

    I have two options,

Option 1. Buying the bike and swapping over the exhuast myself, then selling the bike with standard exhaust and hopefully not losing too much if anything,

    or p

    Option 2. o
Possibly buying just the full exhaust system. I think I would be able to pay less for the exhust if i went for the purchase swap and resale?

Here's the questions, what problems etc am i going to run into. Will the ECU need remapping, will i need to change the Air Filters, lambada senor??, (When i replaced my Monster with a full arrows i had it remapped and dyno tuned with open air box, and removed the lambada)

I am thiniking if i swap the exhaust with ECU's that should work?? or is that not as straight forward.

I wouldn't mind swapping the exhuast and getting my original ECU remapped, but where would that leave the other bike when back to standard??

  2. Buying a bike just to get an exhaust off it sounds like a lot of hassle... not guaranteed that you'll get your money back, you still have to insure it which is an additional cost and some potential buyers will probably be put off by the fact that you're selling it shortly after buying.
Are those exhaust so rare? Is this one any good?

  3. Hi Iceman

Yes it is allot of hassle and going into the uncertain waters, although i have been looking around for a while now and always seem to miss out at the last minute. I am the current highest bidder on that exhuast, but I always seam to lose out at the last seconds as other people use that program that allows them to bid at the very last second and therefore cancelling my bid, even though i had a higher Max bid.

  4. Makes sense... I would personally wait and buy just an exhaust unless the bike is a cracking deal. Mods on a bike have little impact on the price so with a bit of luck you can get the exhaust for (almost) free but like I said... too much hassle in my opinion.

  5. Trick on eBay is to not bid and wait until under 10 seconds to go ( 6 or 7 if you are brave ) and then place a bid slightly higher than you are willing to pay for the item and add a few pence on the end ( £611.59 for example ). If you are the highest bidder then other bidders do not have time to place a higher bid.

  6. That's what I do! But you have to be quick!

  7. 53mm system.....now that is rare.....

  8. The description on that eBay exhaust states that there is a small crack on the rear of the can. These exhausts had a fault where the can would crack usually from around the plate on the top of the silencer, this eventually splits and sometimes the entire mounting bracket separates from the silencer. I returned one under warranty for this and I know two others who had the cracking problem. At the time there were loads of threads about this and lots of others had this problem as well.

Make sure that it is not this fault that this exhaust has ( May be something else ) or any others you look at.

  9. By 1mm even.

Pegboy how much are you willing to pay , and what are you after, is it performance , the noise , or looks.
You could just buy an endcan which would take care of looks plus most probably noise.
Search ebay on worldwide as there is usually stuff from Germany and italy.
