I have had a MIVV decat and Suono fitted since March 2011 and last year had some persuading to do, to get it through the MOT. It's a great sound but has become a little too much of a good thing. Earlier this year I thought the Suono end pipe must be giving up the fight so fitted a new one and sold the old one. Result was no change in volume. Doing some research, the Mivv baffle looks like a poor solution and chokes the engine: Some have had success by drilling out or even removing the end cap. After more research I found out the more recent mid pipes were now sold with two removable baffles: These from one report I've read seem to take the sound down a couple of dB without choking off the engine which seemed to run better. I have now ordered these but will be a long wait while Italy is closed. Has anyone else made any mods or found any other solutions? I am also hoping a bit of added back pressure will make the engine run a little sweeter below 4,000 rpm as it can cough and splutter a bit sometimes. If these don't work will have to go to plan B.....
Can I ask for a little more detail? Where in a Mivv Suono system are these baffles? Mine ate all but one of it's rivets at the engine end and blew apart this year after 30k miles of use so I am having a good look inside before reassembling it and it's pretty much empty; just a perforated tube wrapped in glass cloth and wool. I don't have any parts that look like those in your pictures. Where are you getting Mivv parts from?
I had the same problem with my mivv so I made a baffle out of some 34" stainless pipe, I drilled loads of holes in it, took the end pipe out of my baffle and tacked the pipe to it then refitted it. It sounds deeper now and not so ear splittingly sharp. I'm happy with it I didn't notice any drop in performance. (see pic) I also got some of those "baffles" with my exhaust but the didn't seam to make much difference so I took them out. If I can find them your welcome to them but there crap (see bottom of pic) if I can find them your welcome to them for the price of postage.
That's not what it looks like inside my Suono! Mine outlet is a smooth plain tube that is half the length of the silencer and you can see straight through it. I'll take some pictures too, it may be that there's more than one configuration. I bought mine in April 2011.
Longwayhome - I believe they may have changed the Suono "silencer" when they incorporated the dB killers. Mine new one is also straight through when viewed before fitting. If you look at jcmental's lower photo you can see the two new baffles and the instruction booklet shows them in the diagram. jcmental - I see them lying below the bike, did you fit them? Also could you do me a favour and post the instrucion page showing their fitment. How does your engine run at <4,000rpm? Cheers.
They didn't make any difference if you ask me, I didn't think the sound changed much at all so I took them out. no difference to the power delivery with them in or out that I noticed, although it felt much more free than the standard exhaust on acceleration.
I worried...Am I the only one who got a little aroused by the first picture by JCmental? OK...no more posts...early to bed.
Hi - Apologies for resurrecting an old thread but I'm also having some issues with a second Suono exhaust. I bought my first one in 2011 for my 2010 Touring, did 20k miles without issues but I could tell the packing was done as it was getting louder. I took it off when I chopped in my Touring for a 2014 PP. Although I liked the look of the termi stubby decided to put a Suono on it for a bit more noise, given I still had the old Suono I just bought the end can and used the existing decat. The result was that the new Suono was much louder which I now understand is because they have changed the design and it has a different baffle set up. So I bought the two baffles which go in the decat which lowered the volume a bit (just enough for me) but I seem to have lost some mid range and low speed running is rougher (it seemed ok before I put the baffles in). I assuming the decat design didn't change but can't be certain as I haven't bought a new one. So I seem to have a choice of either an exhaust which is too loud but the bike runs well or an acceptable volume but loss or power and poor running. Has anyone else gone through this and got an acceptable solution? It's doubly annoying as a I was very happy with the old Suono on my 2010 with the baffle in which ran fine. Paul
I have got a hankering for a Mivv decat and Ghibli "silencer", love the look of it. Does anyone have any comment on how loud it is compared to a full Termi, which I love the sound and power of, but am not keen on the looks. Jon.
Never hear much bad said about Arrow systems. Full GP system, e-marked, inc decat on ebay new at £553.
Hi, I sorted my overly loud new Suono can by buying the same length baffle as was fitted to my old one from carpimoto in Italy. The new longer baffle comes with a threaded nut for the retaining screw (unlike the circlip on the old ones) so fits the new style cans. Drilled out the existing short baffle, fitted the new longer one and it sound perfect now. No idea why they changed to the baffles in the decat. Paul
@nuttsmutts - I have a Mivv Ghibli decat and "silencer" fitted. It is very loud as supplied, and the short tubular restrictors fitted inside the pipes do very little to quieten it. So I made up a baffle to go inside the silencer - it slips inside and is held in place with three screws which Mivv provide. With the baffle, it is acceptable; without it, it is just too loud to be tolerable. I must say I like the look of it - but that is a matter of taste.
Thanks Pete, I love the look of it too, but would not want much more volume than my full Termi has. Maybe I will sell that and buy some Quat Ds second hand with the proceeds. Jon.
