Extra Security

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by Pete Lay, Apr 30, 2021.

  1. Afternoon all, just after a bit of advice, I’ve just placed an order for my Panigale V4S, so trying to sort out sort extra security for the garage ie floor. Locks etc, I always kept my 998 in the living room so that was never a concern, but the V4 is to wide to get through the doors, hence garage storage.
It is having a Biketrac tracker and being data tagged, so it should be fine, but just really for peace of mind I’m looking for something a bit extra when it’s left overnight. Perhaps I’m just being paranoid but it’s costing a small fortune so I think any extra hard security ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Will post pictures as soon as delivered.
    Thanks in advance
    Pete

  2. A decent ground anchor and a heavy duty chain like an Almax or pragmasis

  3. Hi,
    Plenty of options here.

I would go with 2 ground anchors, two 19mm chains through front and rear wheel + alarmed disc lock. (Xena xx15 for example)
Make sure your garage doors (side and main) are as secure as possible.
    Plus...2 dogs :) 20190918_135758.jpg

  4. ^^^ This. Nothing beats a muhassive chain and concreted in ground anchor.

The number one security tip though is concealment. If no one knows it’s there....

  5. I was thinking ground anchors and heavy chains, my main concern is the single sided swing arm, and there isn’t anywhere you can thread the chain through the frame. Thanks guys for the suggestions.
And yes to the two dogs, but the only thing they could guard is each other

  6. Thread it through the rear wheel as no one can undo the rear wheel nut in a hurry.

  7. I've put additional locking 'security' bolts on the bottom edge near the corners of the garage door which lock into holes in the concrete; means they can't lever it open so would have to almost destroy the door to get a bike out.

Still won't deter the professionals I guess, will certainly stop the scrotes though?

  8. They managed to pop the additional locks on mine but they were only bolted into the metal door frame. They used a crowbar on the corners which bent the whole door out of shape and released the locks. It made such a loud bang it woke up the dog who went down and started barking. Heard them drive off. I think it was scrotes.

I replaced the bent door with one of those security doors and it is very sturdy. It would be very difficult to bend.
Although I did instantly get stuck in the garage because you cannot open them from the inside. Had to phone my misses to let me out. :grinning:

  9. The other thing I did was create a zone on the house alarm just for the garage door so it's alarmed even when the rest of house alarm isn't on.

  10. Pragmasis do a bar that goes through the frame with the chain at each end. If you have a single sided swingarm and a hollow rear axle, they do a bar that will also go through there

  11. Thanks guys I’ve just the Oxford bar that goes through the wheel centre which looks favourite, I’ve also called the alarm company and they are coming out next week to add a zone in corporating the garage.
It’s just a shame it’s too wide to get through the living room door, the 998 looked great in the room, oh the joy of upgrading, it’s a shame I couldn’t keep both but can’t wait for delivery of the beast

  12. Whatever chain configuration you go for, they'll have a go at it. The trick is to slow the fuckers down and force them to make noise. Have chains off the ground if possible. They're harder to attack, they'll need noisy cutting gear. Always sink your ground anchor and concrete it in. Don't piss about with these rawl bolt things with fancy resin, load of shite, a couple of burly gipo's will pop them out like carrots. Ask me how I know....

  13. Really Suggest Pragmasis or Almax - NOT Oxford

    Look at the Almax Videos.

    https://www.almax-security-chains.co.uk/wall-of-shame

Most of the locks and chains sold are pretty useless.

Pragmasis also do the Anti Pinch Pin that goes through the axle

I also recommend their Torq ground anchor - with chemical resin

I wanted to remove one - took me around 3 hours to drill around the ball bearings and knock them out so I could drill the bolt out. I tried chiselling bolts around too - no chance.

I did also try pulling the anchor out of the ground with 2 3 ton Jacks and a 2" bar - just bent the bar - anchor did not move. Then jacks stalled out.
