I noticed when people have put pictures of their new DVT bikes onto the forum (as in the "she's here" thread) that it appears that in all cases the "tank section" fairing piece connects flush to the "under seat" connection fairing, leaving a nice neat finish between the two with no gaps and thus the seat also connects with a snug fit. All very nice and tidy. However, I noticed on my own bike the the right hand side connection looks "reasonable" with maybe a quarter of an inch gap between the two fairing pieces but the left hand side is a good half inch or more from meeting and you can see the beginning of the connecting lugs in the gap. I've tried taking off the seat and disconnecting the under seat section and then reconnecting it. The lugs do push up into the tank section fairing snugly but as soon as I put it over the two spools that it sits on, the whole thing pulls out a good half inch. The screws fit fine too which makes me think the connection is true. The seat also seems to "gape" at the left hand side and wide enough for me to easily put a pencil down between the tank and the seat. Like the bike is twisted very slightly. Now I've noticed it the bloody thing is annoying me. Has anyone else noted that or am I being to picky? Maybe it's because "it's a Ducati"?
I'll try and do some when I get home. Knew I'd get asked so probably should have tried before hand lol.
Same as mine, I'll be mentioning it at the dealers on the first service. Looks crap, if you look at the high seat "piece" near the tank you can see the gaps
Odly I had the same problem with my 2014 bike, the head lights had difrent gaps in them and the engine bars touch the faring on one side but have a 10mm gap on the other, I mentioned this to DMC a few weeks after I got the bike, they had a look and said there are spacers you can get to even it up with the famous old quote "I'll order you some." needless to say I'm still waiting. I fixed the headlight problem my self by adjusting the fuel tank so it sat central. I don't think the guys at the Ducati design office know how to use AutoCAD very well and cant work out how to get both sides to line up with the frame
You will see by these images what I mean and I accept that in these images they don't look too bad but in real life I think the finish leaves a lot to be desired. The left hand side in the gap between the tank fairing and the under seat fairing is 11mm and the gap on the right hand side is 5mm. Also the seat appears to come up over the the top of the tank on the right hand side and sort of hangs out on the left side. I have attempted to adjust the metal wheel under the seat to try and add some leverage to it but no good. Both of these things make the bike look slightly twisted when sat on it. It hasn't affected anything other than irritating me a bit.
That kind of quality control on this expensive of a bike is frankly unacceptable , you should demand the dealer fix it or replace it ,Ducati has let this kind of nonsense go on for too long.
Mine are the same. I informed the dealer today while getting the first service done. He took some pics but said all the DVTs were the same n some are getting worsebut he's going to raise it with Ducati UK, not expecting much of a reply yet alone a fix. Pissed me off that much I've taken them off
The seats on all the DVT's at the shows had seats that slid around, not fixed solidly. The test ride bike I tried was the same. Have they at least fixed this?
Cant say I noticed it sliding around, top tip though, if you do use the high seat parts make sure you threadlock the bolts into the seat as most of mine came out, luckily all but one were sat in-between the various electrical bits under the seat.
There is a pic on my Back from Italy thread which shows about two dozen Multi's in a line at the Ducati factory. I checked all of these and low and behold there are very big degrees of difference in all of the connecting fairing parts. You would think that not possible but it is true. You would think that parts ordered to a size and frames made to a size would all result the same size gap between fixed parts but that is just not the case. I would still rate mine about the worst I've seen on the left side panel but it was a bit of a relief to see plenty of others with similar gaps. These parts are added to the bike at the dealers so I suppose the quality control goes back to the dealer? The bikes are sent crated without the smaller fairing parts attached (according to our factory tour guide) to avoid scratches.
Hi LB I was there in the dealers when my bike arrived, helped them uppack it I was that excited some pics on another thread Everything was attached bar handle bars which were braced side on The only other explanation is the guy in the truck must have had his scanners out
