748 Fairing Intake Grilles

  1. Hi, is it worth removing the two air intake grilles on the screen fairing. The mesh is quite restricting so was just wondering if anyone else has done this mod.

  2. Now that is an interesting question. Had you asked several months ago I would have responded that the mesh stops the larger detritus from clagging up the in tube filter and a decision to keep them or not is a balance between what you would gain or lose. Having recently bought an 853cc big bore kit that includes a new set of mesh inserts I am now questioning if the air flow restriction is detrimental. If you don't have in tube filters, I'd say the mesh inserts are essential and if you do, I'm not sure you would notice if you don't have the mesh filter. Andy

  3. I've recently fitted a JHP foam filter so was tempted to remove the grilles as they seem more of a restriction to the air flow.

  4. You could always go half way if you were that concerned and make your own out of more widely spaced alloy mesh. That would stop anything big getting in like a stone but anything soft like flies etc. would\could get through the mesh. Just a thought.

Personally, as mentioned above, I would keep them stock

  5. Cheers for the advice chaps. I think it's best to leave the grilles in place .... Considering what, if any, difference it will make.
    Thanks for the advice.

  6. I cut the openings bigger to allow more air to pass through, I don't know if it helps but it can't hurt. Originally ran it without any mesh but then fitted a larger mesh to keep the bigger 'roadkill' out, the fine stuff does get choked up quickly.

  7. Liking that idea Dukedesmo, even looks better too. Any extra air flow has to be good. :upyeah:
