  4. Cheap that. But probably wants the same if not more spending on it again.

money pits those places. Toyed with the idea of a French Chateau a few times but there’s a good reason why the French don’t want them ha

  5. Looks like it needs a shed load of cash spending on it, not to mention the lack of a driveway (quagmire when it rains), garages/barn/outbuildings look delapidated as does the conservatory, it'll cost an arm and a leg to heat it (judging by the vault of the ceilings, single pane windows, probable lack of any meaningful insulation) and besides running costs, you never stop forking out on maintenance with a property of this age. Distinct lack of interior photos too. Not one for me, even if I could afford it.

  6. The Gardner will have a nice inheritance tax bill of 40% on anything over £325K.

  7. A mate of mine has a farmhouse. It’s not like this situation but even that has cost over a million to get it right (albeit to a high level). 1.2/3 rings a bell.

    things get expensive real quick.

  8. Sales blurb says it’s Grade 1 listed, so a huge time and cost multiplier for any restoration right there!

But there is a pub close by and an Aldi in Alnwick for when they have medieval roof tiles and lime mortar on weekly offer.

  13. Listed buildings = eye watering bills. Not for the faint hearted and definitely a labour of love and money....lots of it.
