Timeline, My Parents And Bikes.
The thread about embarrassing old photos reminded me of some images I scanned after I found them whilst clearing out my Mothers house late last year.
We lost her earlier in the year, 23yrs after we lost my father, and I put together a time line of them with bikes starting in the 40’s.
I apologise for the self-indulgent nature of the thread, but I'm sure some of the images will be of interest to some.
We'll start with camping in the 1940s.
This has Easter 1947 written on the back, and is believed to be Friends of my Father he served with in the Navy.
On to my Fathers beloved 650 Gold Flash
Which ended up with a sports sidecar.
Note the riding gear!
Then many years later my Mother having a trip around the garden on my DT175.
I will accept everything I deserve for how I looked @1983
My father actually rode my RD350 YPVS a few times in the mid 1980s, but is just posing here.
Then lastly the pair of them on my Z1000H in the mid 1990's a short while before we lost my Father. He rode... -
Brings My Pathetic Troubles Into Sharp Relief
Not sure why I’m posting this, just want to get it off my chest really.
I try to be an upbeat person, try to be kind (most of the time) & even where I differ politically, culturally or any other way, I think that I try to do the right thing. But it doesn’t stop me bitchin’ about my lot sometimes or feeling irritated at the most pointless of things & then life chucks you one of these people:
Met a guy today who’d been forced to sell a large part of the equity in his property to pay his wife’s care costs, the company he sold to clearly ripped him off, then went bust & his new company wanted a property inspection. Enter me.
He stops me at the door & asked if I would be OK with his wife smoking as she has terminal cancer & dementia & would not understand if I objected. Of course I didn’t.
He also has a large hole in the middle of his head, literally a hole, where his cancerous tumor was removed last year. The flat is pokey, untidy & dark (to keep costs down) & he constantly... -
El Toro & Welcome To Our New Mod :-)
Hi all,
Regrettably, a few days ago @El Toro had made the decision to stop his role here as admin. It's a bloody difficult job, pretty thankless, and a voluntary role that is, to be honest, very hard to get it right. On one hand it's important to keep the place well maintained, well moderated and as free from useless crap as possible to help make it the best bike forum on the planet. Then on the other hand, in an ideal world, we would leave it be and let users self moderate.
Finding the balance between the two is pretty much impossible as everyone will have a different opinion.
The excellent news is that, after many many discussions (and I know El T has had many more message of support from members here) he's staying on as Admin here. He has been an integral part of this community since pretty much the beginning. Thanks El T, for everything you've done here I do hope that will continue for a long time.
Also, some more brilliant news; to support, @Ducbird will be joining the... -
Desmo 1452 Is All Mine!!
Hello folks
I shook hands to finalize a deal today to buy Desmo (number 1452). 5731km on the clock, very little use over the past 3 years, but cherished with full service history. Comes with the GP exhaust and fairings.
Still wearing 2009 vintage tires, so it'll need some new (16"!) boots before I can give it a proper run out. Hopefully being delivered on Saturday. **EXCITED**
I think that's my Ducati Greatest Hits collection complete.... for now!
Cheers -
Twenty One Years Ago.....
Twenty one years ago i passed my motorcycle test . My First bike was a Ducati 600SS, I got it from a guy in Barnes London . The Moment he pulled the cover off it and started it up, I was buying it know matter what!. It was a red noisy Ducati! .
I had it for a couple of years and made some great memories on it . Going to the Manx TT with my dad and my first ride on a track at Mallory park at the festival of a thousand bikes.
Nothing is forever, and I sold it for a VTR 1000 firestorm...... .
Anyway, our very own monster owner Albie posted a pic of a 600ss he once owned on facebook . It was only my old bike!! .He had moved it on years ago to a fellow ducati man, who had then sold it on to our club member Liz Evans! . I contacted Liz a few months ago asking if she still had it, and yes she did!
Well twenty years on and she's back home!, she looks just as good as the day she went, if not even better . Yes it feels very slow and has no brakes, but I really enjoyed my first 50 mile ride... -
998 Project Finished
Started taking bits off at start of lockdown to get to some flaky engine paint and never really stopped.
Finished a while back but life yet again got in the way. Only ridden 100 miles but it was a fantastic 100 miles and that’s what counts.
Removed engine, found oil leak on vertical cylinder. Painted engine by hand. Side cases powder coated, valve covers powder coated. Valves cleaned and lapped, all valve clearances now correct. Getting shims during lockdown was a ball ache. Exact fit belts fitted. Hand polished all pipes. Most fasteners replated at local place. All gaskets and O rings replaced. Ohlins shock serviced, spring powder coated. TPS reset, throttle bodies balanced. All bodywork repainted by dream machine. She looks and rides beautiful.mary hinge horse burger Dec 22, 2021 748 / 916 / 996 / 998 Read More Views: 4,483 Likes: 52 Replies: 45 -
1199 Went In For A Sat Nav Holder........ Bought A Panigale R
Well, I’ve had an interesting week.
I went into my local dealer last Saturday to buy a Givi Sat Nav holder for my Hyperstrada.
I was aware that they had a 2nd Generation Panigale R in, which I had resisted looking at due to deciding a while back that one of these would be my next bike, but not wanting to buy right now.
I sold my Streetfighter S to Steve @baylissboy a few weeks ago, because I wasn’t using it, he asked me a few times, was a gent, and really wanted it. One of the reasons for letting it go was that it released a large chunk of funds towards a Pani R. But, because I wouldn’t get the chance to use it much this year, I had decided to wait until winter with a few more coming onto the market being traded in against V4’s and PCP deals coming to an end. However, as with these things, I was keeping an eye on the market for these bikes and it wasn’t out of the question to buy one if the right bike came up. I have also witnessed the market on 2nd hand Ducatis getting... -
V4 Mine !
Arrived at work today just behind a delivery truck and look what he had on board.
Final picture is a comparison of my mag alloy wheels and the standard ones on the other V4 Speciale that was on the truck.
To say I'm a happy bunny is a bit of an understatement (even with a head still full of snot) Andy -
My Angel Is A Centrefold (as Well As Being Front Cover)
Over the moon with my restored 888 making the front cover, centrefold and 8 page article of my rebuild. This was posted on the Ducati Owners Club GB page and I am massively honoured and proud to have made the front cover. Hoping to get more photos from the shoot, but I will be buying several copies for the guys who helped me.
Here are the great connections you can rely on (hope I haven't missed anyone out).

Giving The Gift Of Motorcycling
The youngest Zhedlet turns 18 this time next week and I got him this MT125 (2016). Advertised for £2,850 but I got it for £2,400 with a paddock stand thrown in as the ABS light was on. I think it’s probably just a loose or dry connection as I had a fiddle with the sensors and got the light to go out and the ABS working again, but then it recurred.
I made him spend a year on a twist and go step thru so he could concentrate on developing his road sense and whatnot without having to worry about gears and clutch or toppling over and so he’s absolutely over the Moon to now be on a “proper” bike. We then had a lovely, albeit slow, ride back to Herts together through the Cambridgeshire lanes. -
1200 10 Years Riding Multistrada 1200s
In the last 10 years, I’ve been lucky enough to own 4 Multi 1200s and clock up a total of 66,000 miles on them. I love the torque of the big V-twin engine, the good handling, superb brakes, the ease of changing suspension setup for solo or two up riding, the flexible luggage options and even the styling. I’ve enjoyed nearly every mile, even in riding in the rain. The bikes have had a few minor faults and recalls and I’ve only twice had to call out a breakdown service and one of those was arguably my fault.
The Bikes
All bikes have been the S model with the factory fitted Touring pack (panniers, main stand and heated grips) plus top box and various tank bags over the years. I’ve always fitted radiator, oil cooler and engine guards together with auxiliary LED lights, Scottoiler, Barkbusters handguard protectors, high level sat nav mount (Navihalter), and Oberon clutch slave cylinder. I’ve also got through my fair share of screens and seats on the different bikes.
I’ve only kept... -
1200 7 Years And 82,500 Miles. Owners Report
Hi Guys,
Sorry for not posting very often, life has been a bit hectic of late but I thought I'd summarise my Multistrada experience so far.
My bike is a 2010 S with the touring parts added and the Ohlins semi-active SCU. I have a Mivv system but for the last couple of years I have just used the standard exhaust. My wife and I tour Europe 2-up for our holidays and this year having moved into semi-retirement we have had the time for longer tours.
As I use my bike in km, I filled up the odometer last year and found that when it gets to 99999 it just stops counting up. I passed by Bologna so I dropped in to the factory to ask how to reset it. "Buy a new speedo" I was told.
So this year with virgin clocks fitted we started this year's touring. New chain (the fourth since new) new belts and a check of the valves (one shim changed so far since new) and new for this year Garmin bluetooth valve caps to talk to the Zumo 660 on my left bar. I also have a Tomtom 430 front and centre for... -
After 2 Years, She Is Complete
She is now 100%, but with the weather as wet as it is, I am still unable to do a shakedown ride. She sounds lovely and looks stunning, which is the main thing.
Hopefully next Saturday will be kind for the monthly meet up, otherwise I’ll see you all in the first decent day in Spring! -
David Jefferies Gsxr
One for the TT fans among us, this is David jefferies gsxr k3 from 2003. The last bike the big man rode before setting off on the super bike practise and was tragically killed. This bike was in the production class and set the fastest lap time of 122.57 mph. I was lucky to get it before Suzuki nabbed it for there museum! Every thing is stamped with tas and dj and I have all the paperwork from tas racing and the TT, bikes were supposed to be relatively stock but think most were tuned, this bike was raced in the nw200 as well but have yet to find any results.
Im honoured to be able to own such a magical bike with so much history and providence. -
1199 New Panigale R
Well guys here's the panigale R.
It's on a 65 plate with 6k on the clock and it's mental to ride!! I surprised how easy it is to ride after the 996 though. So smooth and gear change is faultless. It's also got hpk discs on the front which is a bonus , loads of carbon but I think that's standard but I've got some more coming from @nmack8. Its mint condition other than a crack in the tail unit which is being replaced with a new panel. I can't stop looking at it it's just ace.. Here are the pics. -
So My Newly Painted Lid Is Finished .... Thanks Liam At Ldc
So gents, here are the design and progress photos of my latest lid, had this one painted for no other reason than my ego and to match the Pani ...
Liam at https://www.ldcdesigns.co.uk/ did all the design work and the painting, he also did the design work on my other DibbleCorse lid that I shared late last year and has repainted my wifes Shoei as well as doing the design work and some of the painting on the Pani that he completed with Mike at TripleC Paintwork in Burghfield near Reading .......

Honda Thread
New purchase. Low mileage, NSR250 MC21. She's a stunning bike in mint condition. Had a little run on her, goes really well, great fun and sounds lovely. An old school 2 stroke, with a choke and kickstart, brings back a lot of memories. -
Sincere Request - Please Help
Hi.
On September 5th I was thrown from my Panigale at around 100mph on a track day at Silverstone.
I suffered life threatening injuries (numerous fractures and internal organ injuries) and was given 11 units of blood and plasma (2 at Silverstone, the balance at Coventry Serious Trauma Unit). The Doctors told my wife and children that I may not pull through.
I owe my life to so many but I want to ask your help in supporting The Air Ambulance Service, who airlifted me from Silverstone to Coventry. They were landed at Silverstone within 20 minutes of getting the call from the Medical Centre and, as you no doubt know, exist solely through public donations.
The Air Ambulance Service cover Warwickshire, Northamptonshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rultand. If you do trackdays, that's Silverstone, Donington and Mallory and, if you don't do trackdays, that's a massive road network. They have also been called to attend Cadwell. They also cover the UK for the Children's Air... -
First Ride On The Custard 888
Collected it in a van yesterday ( pelting rain ) and its first 10 mile round trip on country roads to get it MOT'd today. Starts, brakes just fine and the ohlins rear and well set up front mean its handles well but is nicely supple. The 40th rear sprocket suites the strada's power exactly and the engine is just so smooth ( max 4500 rpm as its only just awakening from its slumbers ). Although the bars are low for a fat old git there is plenty of leg and bum room. Best of all it makes me feel a million dollars to ride .. so I am well happy. Hoping for a dry day tomorrow to get more miles on now it is road legal. -
