First Service, Dealer Choice

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Bumpkin, Aug 29, 2018.

  1. Collecting my new Multistrada next week. Already have some rides planned which will see me exceeding the 600 mile distance for the break-in service over the weekend of 15th and 16th of September so need to book it in for this as soon as I collect.

The supplying dealer is too far away so it will come down to the following:

Ducati Coventry/JHP - had test ride here and they seemed OK, have heard good things about them
Riders of Bristol - not a great experience there back in 2016 but was isolated incident
Riders of Cardiff - closest but not by much
Ducati Aylesbury/On Yer Bike - nicest ride to get there
Ducati Oxford/Blade - unknown but within range and similar route to above

    Any recommendation or warnings?

Will there be any issues, in terms of implications on warranty, with the fact that I'll be at around 750 miles by the time I get to the dealer for the service?

Also a dealer that is willing to loan a bike whilst mine is being worked on would be nice. Maybe not so important for the break-in service which hopefully won't take too long but would make the time spent waiting more bearable. A good experience at this stage will likely result in the dealer getting my business for future work (until warranty is up anyway).

  3. Out of those, JHP, who will also have a demo bike or 2 knocking about.

If you fancy travelling a little further, then Cornerspeed just off J28 of the M1, great service, ben doing my bikes now for over 10 years.

  4. Thanks, got a good feeling about them when there for a test ride a month ago. Only issue is that the route there isn't great. However, a place where the workshop does a decent, professional and considerate job would be worth it.

Thanks for the recommendation but having had to to ride over 100 miles each way for servicing on the MV I was hoping to at least bring that down a little.

  5. I use Riders in Cardiff

In general OK - I almost always wait while they service...

Sometimes take a bit longer than it should due to workload / staff - but then they discount the bill a little.

There is a good Cafe upstairs and there are 2 other bike garages near by for a walk and look as well as their own shop.

Next door is Toolstation - so free coffee and soup :)

There is soon to open a new M&P Superstore down by the Fordthorne Garage - Old BQ... not sure exactly when that will open - But Andy who was the Parts guy for Ducati is gone there - I think as one of the Managers.

They do not lend Ducati for demo bikes - but would loan you a BMW... book in advance with Craig or John.

Not cheap - but do not think any of them are..

I always supply my own oil - so I know whats in it for top up and pay somewhere between 100 and 200 for a service on the Scrambler or Multi.

  6. Would do any of them. Head south to WM Snells or Motorapido or slightly north to Cornerspeed

  7. OK, thanks. Surrounding interest and cafe may ease the wait. Closest too.

Would, or wouldn't? What you wrote could imply you meant to say the latter...?

This time around I just need a competent workshop that will do the break-in service and stamp the book.

Have heard great things about both Snells and Motorapido, too far though. Maybe for large services, I have the four year warranty so will probably have at least one, if not two, valve services in that time. That's assuming that this bike is the keeper I'm intending it to be.

  8. Sorry, wouldn't. If its just a ducat dealer for regular service tho, I'd probably go to the nearest or Bristol coz the cafe is nice and they seemed OK when I popped in with an issue.

  9. I’d definitely recommend Ducati Coventry. Great customer service and always happy to help. They’ve got some nice bikes on show.

I bought my bike from Ducati Nottingham. I would definitely recommend them for sales but not the service side. I had a couple of simple issues with the bike and they didn’t want to know. One bad customer experience can put you off the dealer easily.

I’m actually glad of the poor service because I’ve realised how good JHP are.

  10. JHP have a great dungeon if you interest in the metal behind the bikes. They also are very good at upselling... you have been warned ;)

  14. On Yer Bike - they are not to bad - Ian is helpful in service and if you can get Neil to work on it all the better - usually a bike available

  15. My view is always get a quote first, this may help with your final decision, On a side note my 1299 is going to JHP on Saturday for its annual service. The only dealers who will ever touch my bikes are JHP, Snells, Rapido and Cornerspeed and Oxford BMW :scream:
