Fitting Gear Indicator

  1. has anyone fitted a GIPro gear indicator?

i'm in the process of putting one on my 916.

it needs an earth and a 12v switched power source.

they recommend using the wires from the clocks, but my bike has no lights or light switch so these wires won't be powered when the ignition comes on.

only way i can see is to tap into one of the wires direct from the ignition switch - or is there another way?

  2. Try the back of the fuse block, just test with a multimeter until you find one that is switched.

  3. might have a look at that...

how about the temp guage or rev counter would they have switched feed?

  4. If you tap into the gauge feed it might upset the gauges and they may mis-read I have seen this happen when someone tapped into the Rev Counter feed to fit a bar graph LED rev light which was part of a carbonfibre dashboard, the rev counter was all over the place.

As above switch feed or back of the fuse block assembly, or put a switchable feed in directly off the battery.

  5. I fitted one to a 1098 and powered it from the live side of the brake light feed

  6. in the end i used the live(brown) and earth (black) wires going to the l/h switchgear connector as they were conveniently located right by the clocks. Also used the green wire to the rev counter for the rpm pickup.
