  1. Issues with fitting Multsitrada Pannier Lids

Hi all. I'm sure this may have been covered before and if so I'm sorry but I couldn't find what I needed on the forum (I am useless though).
I've just bought a set of 73lts pannier lids for my 2010 Multistrada off EBay and although they are in fantastic condition they didn't come with any fitting instructions. I was told by the seller that you simply removed a pin on either pannier replaced the lid and then the pin again. Problem is getting the pins out!!
Anyone else have any advice tips please?

    Ta

  2. You are going to need the following.
    Duvet or blanket.
    Big pliers.
    Pin punch
    Hammer.

This isn't a task you undertake lightly nor frequently.
Place the panniers on the duvet or blanket to stop it being damaged...two people is a big help here.
With the hinge pin aligned vertically tap it towards the middle (or other hinge) using a 2~4oz hammer and small pin punch.
Once it is sticking out enough try to pull it out with the pliers...twisting helps.
    Repeat for the other hinge.
Insertion is the reciplical of this process.

  3. Thanks very much AirCon I'll try that . Might have to improvise with the pin punch as I don't have one but I'm sure I'll have someone I can use,

    Cheers

  4. You could try a bit of lube on the pins like acf50 to reduce friction before you tap them out also

  5. Or just furniture polish with silicon (or WD40)....much cheaper than ACF50.
The upside being than the inside of the panniers will smell nicer :)

  6. A useful or :thumbsup:rating emoji would be nice..:( :Rage: :Sorry:

  7. Thanks for the advice . Got the stuff I need apart from the punch but I'm going try it

I've marks the 2 advices as Useful......please don't think I was ungrateful just still finding my way round the forum.

Now please let this work and that the new panniers are not too wide!!

  9. Remember the arse of the bike is now wider than the bars at the front ................. so take care when filtering ;)

Funnily I was looking at the smaller pannier lids for that exact reason as the 2013 GT comes with the mahoosive 73 L as standard

  10. Oh yes. I've had to do a couple of last minute aborts of a tight filter when suddenly remembering that I had the big lids on. And the big lids have a few scratches on them from my boots, due to repeated failures to properly get my leg over. As it were… …OTOH, I can get a LOT into the panniers - camera gear, tripod, walking boots, rucksack etc.

  11. In all honesty I would rather they were taller and narrower ..... funnily enough just like the new ones for the Enduro version ;)

from the side the 73L panniers look tiny, but from the rear its massive compared to my old GS1150 fully kitted

I'll see how I get on this summer as I have a couple of trips planned where I will need more than the topbox I took on the last trip round Scotland
