Hello all, any of my fellow forum members own, or have owned a mk3 focus Rs? Good friend of mine bought a mint 16 plate ( yes, recall has been done) from Rs direct in Bristol on the weekend, it has the fmp 375 kit on it, goes like stink! After driving his yesterday, I’m thinking of taking the plunge myself, I have been interested in them since they were introduced anyway Just wondered if any owners / previous owners out there could give any constructive feedback on ownership Cheers Steve
Never had one, but was always a Fast Ford fan in my late teens and early 20's. I still have a weakness for Cosworths now, oh for the lotto win.
I know a few people who’ve had issues with them. My friends is 375bhp and my standard golf R is quicker. We ran numerous drags, standing, rolling from all different speeds in Germany and the Golfs smash them in the mid range especially past 80. More tuneable as well and better build.
Had a 3.0S and about 5 x 2.8injections, including a turbo. Ah, the memories of fishnet headrests and tartan seats. Then the half leather and 5 speed box of the Special. Probably really slow these days, but nostalgia does strange things to you.
Sold my low miles, GGR group A engined, moonstone blue 3 door cossie for 5k ☹ D83 BSX Also my whit 89 sapphire fully sorted 380bhp MADevelopments for 5.5 ☹ F401 SOO. Ferrari man wanted plate as F40 IS OO
I’d take an RS over any golf every day. Only golfs worth having were the early ones before they got too fat and too family orientated
Saw a Mk1 Golf , a 964 Carrera 2 and a lovely 205 GTI 1.9 just a couple of days ago . How fantastic and minuscule they all looked. Everything now is so fat and flabby in comparison. The joy of having a petite wee car oozing bags of character. I really really miss the 80’s and early 90’s cars. Sorry OP can’t help with any advice on the RS. But what do you have to lose. I’d go for it.
We do a run what you brung type day at the Porsche experience and i had the pleasure of one of these for a few laps on a wet but drying track............absolutely fantastic in drift mode. the car wagged its tail about like an old mk2 escort but the electricery seemed to control it in an oversteer slide...brilliant!
I couldn’t be less interested in a Golf R if my life depended on it, I currently own a 67 plate golf gtd
Of the friends who have had them, they are similar to people like those in here who buy v4's, unlikely to be an every day vehicle if that is what you are buying it for. Beyond that and saying it was very juicy and heavy on tyres, most tended to buy one just tick it off their list in the same way many would have done with the busa but rarely kept it long.
I’m just saying pal. I come from 4 wheel racing. The focus chassis is better on track. But it’s a poor ride and they aren’t ‘that quick’ considering they look like they’ve been fired through a council estate and landed in Halfords. I’ve had all sorts of cars. Struggle to replace the R as an all rounder. Stupidly tuneable aswell. 500bhp without spending silly money. My previous stage 1 would live with a 911 turbo. But a tad vanilla as you say. The GTD is a very different car mind.
