Fork Oil Level 1098S Forks?

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Old Jock, Dec 8, 2012.

  1. Ohlins FG511, standard Ohlins fork as fitted to 1098S

Anybody know what the recommended oil level from the top of the fork is meant to be? The spring and preload tube have been removed as per instructions.

I'm trying to measure the level but its not so easy to get an accurate reading (it's getting dark and cold in the shed).

Just thought I'd ask to so as I got a gauge when I try to measure the level tomorrow.

I hate bloody forks I really do

  3. Cheers Anth

That was pretty close to what I was measuring, but with the failing light and my old eyes I wanted to be sure

    Appreciated

  4. 155mm

Just had mine serviced/new piston kit fitted by K-tech and the spec sheet shows a 155mm air gap with 5w oil.

  5. Thanks Duke

Actually looking at the manual again I just realized it does tell me....................wot an eedgit I am

Interesting on the fork oil weight. I knew the Ohlins fluid was probably lighter than what Ducati recommend. I heard people say the Ohlins stuff is like water.

    Ducati 7.5 W

Ohlins 5W (although they spec a viscosity in Centistokes at a given temp making hard to compare apples with apples)

I'll just stick in the 7.5W stuff I have and next time get the whole lot serviced and the proper Ohlins fluid out in.

  6. I think the 5w might be a K-tech thing, I've had their piston kits fitted in 2 sets of forks and both times they've used 5w oil, maybe it's better for fine damping?
