Just planing my Bike prep for my first trackday since 2007, and lll be using my 996s for the first outing. managed to square away most of the normal worries ie belts tc but now its time to have a think about Fork oil change as i guess its been in there since 2001. not wanting to change fork internals etc or springs just yet, so has anyone got any tips on fork oil replacement?
Check the fork oil seals whilst doing the job and decide if you are happy with the stock weight of oil for the damping that you want. I have uprated springs and damping on my track bike so I went for a different oil weight when having them rebuilt. It's a personal thing but it worked for me and something to consider.
thanks Red, good point regarinding the fork seals. my mind set is that ill use the bike for 2 trackdays and then sell it on if i can get up to speed again/ enjoy the environment. so its after chcking the seals before i left and all looks good, i was hoping to just wip out the forks after loosening the top caps and then pooring out the old oil and renewing with similar new. just interested to see if im starting a pointless task ie. a full strip will remove possible dirt/ emulsified residue. i work overseas at the moment so time at home needs carefull planning ..!
If your changing the oil I would service the forks fully then you know they will be working optimally, then if you do adjust the suspension you know that once set up for your liking all will be good, just my thoughts based on my own experience. I take your point about work though.
