Forks off

  1. Looking to get the forks off my 748 and change the oil. I will obviously have to suspend the front end to do this and wanted to hear how you all do it. I have an abba stand and was thinking about purchasing the abba attachment to get the front wheel up. I have heard of people jacking under the sump or strapping under the headstock and hanging from the rafters etc, or is it woth getting a headstock stand? What does the forum suggest? Thanks in advance.

  2. A headstock stand with a cup is what you need to go the headstock stand route with standard yokes (there's only a likkle biddy drain holes in bottom of bottom yoke).

I have used a paddock stand on the rear and trolley jack under the sump previously. Secure the rear wheel to the rear paddock stand with a tie-down (helps prevent you pushing bike of stand axle pin).

  3. I've used a few inches of scaffold board jacked up vertically at the base of the front barrel with a rear paddock stand. Got a front paddock stand in hutton if you wanna borra Jim. On my 999 with no stem hole I reverse the pin and rachet strap the horizontal bar under the yokes.

  4. abba stand at rear and an A frame step ladder and ratchet straps is a cheap cheerful and stable way to lift the front if you have space

fyi abba front lift not suitable for your bike

  5. Hang it from the rafters.

  6. What ever you decide loosen the top nuts before removal.

  8. Thanks chaps, lot of good info there. Thanks for the offer Keith, I have normal front wheel stands but I like the scaffold board and the A frame ladder ideas. Will have a think...
