Forward Pot

  1. So I got to change the plugs. The horizontal one - around the base, and the exterior of the plug cap tube - was quite heavily caked in white deposit. It looked like what you sometimes get on batteries.

Presumably the front pot(s) get a lot more rain thrown up than the rear.

I haven't had any overheating. No drips, though if there was a seep at the cam box I suppose it would evapourate. Anyway I suppose the plug cap seal has failed.

The question is whether the white stuff is the remnant from rain or rad water after boiling; or after electrolysis (and explaining why it was intermittently running on one!)

    What do you guys think?

(Either way I think I'd best get new plug caps)

  2. Cool, a game of "guess which bike I'm working on!".

  3. I’m going for a Ducati 999.

  4. Hard to say without pics, but aluminium releases a white powdery residue when it oxidises, not unlike the build up you sometimes see around battery terminals.

  5. so was running prior to this Wasted? I'm surprised front coil hasn't failed yet, fingers crossed for you.

  6. your misfire.. 99.999% possibility that it's due to front coil and/or front spark plug lead breaking down then, a common occurrence.

  7. '...in the elephant's...'

  8. Yes, you could call it that! Maybe they'll give me the freedom of the town. And then regret it. All the festivals they have here I bet they'd do a pig's cock at the chance to have one for slang!

Incidentally I notice I included an extraneous apostrophe.

  9. Hopefully the front coil connector isn't ravaged with corrosion but if it is, then needs a thorough clean-up.

  10. Hopefully the front one will do it as you said it’s dropping to 1, but I don’t need to tell you this, you still need to routinely check out the vertical coil at some point, just for safekeeping. I used to get twin cam cars that would break down on one cylinder because the spark plug was sitting in an oil well due to leaking rocker cover . Never experienced this on a Ducati but did have one filled with water instead once (which also broke down) but can’t remember which bike.

  11. The vertical is probably fine, they usually are, I shouldn’t have instilled fear into you, just have a look when you get round to it maybe. :)

  12. Ignition stick coils. Tap that in to EBay or Google. With your model and year. Prices are definitely not £300 plus per pair.
