Been having 'out of shape frame shimmering' at speed on flowing roads after hitting road surface imperfections........often had to back off, afraid of tank slapper developing . Dealer, who races, said back of the rebound , by two clicks, at both ends. Anybody else got a view?
Too loose or too tight headstock bearings can cause it......... ...........but then, so can heavy top boxes.
I thought Ms's did that, I thought it was a combination of the Frame Flexing, because it is so high on the forks and long travel you get this speed wobble (very very slight) at high speed cornering?
My steering wobbles a bit at anything above 160 kmph (what ever that is in mph) when fully loaded... backed off when I hit about 180. Didn't seem to matter what the road surface was like. My pre-load is a little lower than default on the touring mode (s model) Just back from the Dolomites did just under 3000 miles in two weeks. Will put up a post with my issues and thoughts when I get a minute.
At 120 plus mine would weave a very little, at 130 plus quite a lot more. Nothing dangerous or dramatic, more like a heavy cross wind from both sides (if that makes sense) but then I'm heavy, the bike is heavy and I didnt have luggage
Good point. Mine is always in touring so maybe the preload thing could be a reason the OP is having it
I used to get it on my 2014 S GT, I ended up extending the forks through the yokes, I noticed when ever I turned in it would put a lot of pressure on my inside hand so I was pushing against it quite hard in bends, as I came out just before I was upright the bike would "jiggle" like a slight tank slap while leaning. I remember from my R1 days to get it to tip in more you could drop the yokes down the forks 5mm. Since I've had the bike my forks had 3 rings showing above my top yoke so I dropped them through so the tops are level with the top of the yoke, it's much better now far more compliant into and coming out of bends, and the extra height has made popping the odd wheelie even easier.
haven't they quickened up the steering on the DVT? that would make it more flighty at higher speed. i would have thought the top box wouldn't help with aerodynamics as well
Understand the issues with top box's but this bike is stable until it hits surface imperfection.....at higher speeds when using it's engine performance, lol.
Guys, the issue is due to the front fork preload. From Bologna the bike is loaded to ZERO. It means the bike thinks you are 15kg. Even the manual states it. The dealer should ask for your weight and set it up before deliver the bike... ofc they don't! For an 80KG rider it needs 5 rotation clockwise. Hope this helps and sorry for my funny English!! (I'm Italian!) Manual page 331: Adjusting the front fork The front fork used on this motorcycle has rebound (return), compression and spring preload adjustment. Fork rebound and compression damping is adjusted by electric impulses sent by the instrument panel to the adjusters inside the fork legs; spring preload is adjusted manually through adjuster (1) on RH fork leg. Warning Have the spring preload adjusted at a Ducati Dealer or authorised Service Centre. For fork adjustment, follow the description on page 185 "Customising Riding Mode: DSS suspension setting". For further details on the operating principle of the fork and the DSS (Ducati SkyHook System) please refer to page 35. Spring preload initial setting: - 10 turns (fully open);
Not sure this is the case with SKYHOOK. I went into settings and it shows how it is set up differently for each load and power settings.
