Front Brake Hoses On 1991 851 Sp3...

  1. Evening

Over the winter I plan to replace the front brake hoses on my SP3. I have the original rubber hoses, which came in a bag when I bought the bike years ago - I'm NOT planning to re-use the rubber hoses, but I'd quite like to revert to the original layout (one hose from m/c to a "manifold" on the lower yoke, one hose to each brake caliper). Currently I have some braided hoses with hideous blue/red anodized fittings, with the hose connected to the top of the caliper and the bleed nipple to the side...

The problem I have is I can't figure out which of the four (!) hoses goes where. There is one long one, which I think does the rear brake, but the other three? Does anyone have a good diagram, or photo, of the original system showing the manifold area and the caliper?

    TIA

    Andrew

PS - I know it would be easier, and maybe better, to run two hoses from the m/c, using a double-banjo, to the calipers, but I'm a sad git who likes original...

  2. OK, took the front fairing off over the weekend and offered p the manifold and hoses I have. It's now pretty obvious what goes where, so I'll get some hoses made up.

    Thanks again.

  3. Now I know which hose goes where, can anyone recommend where to get some s/s hoses made up using the rubber originals as patterns? In Suffolk would be ideal.

    TIA

  4. Venhill are also worth a look. When getting braided hoses, it is worth considering getting them with a covering, whether see-through if you want to see the steel braiding, or any of the colours you might fancy, because bare steel braid is abrasive and will remove the anodising, or protective paint where the hose rubs on the fork leg.

  5. Thanks both - I'd get the s/s hoses covered in black plastic, for the reasons stated (and cosmetic).
