Hey again, wondering if any of u have a suggestion. I have recently had an issue with my front brake binding, after using it, it would not unbind all the way, rather i heard and felt that it was still a bit engaged. After reading some forum topics, I decided that a solution would be to bleed the lines and also take the brakes off the wheel and clean them. I have done so, after cleaning i bled the lines again, i did this by opening the bleed nipple, squeezing the lever (watching fluid come out), then closing nipple and releasing lever, i continued on each calliper till no bubbles were present. After all this the brake does not bind anymore, however instead i have to have the lever set to highest setting (furthest away from handle), and the brakes grip only when the lever is almost fully pressed. I have ensured to pump the lever a bit to build up pressure, but no resolution. I have again bled the bottom calliper nipples to double check for air bubbles, but the fluid was coming out solid with no bubbles... what else could be wrong?? I have closed the nipples and pressed the lever in full held there and ensured there is no leaking anywhere.. I can't think of what else might be wrong, especially as I went in 1 day from one extreme, lever would grip by barely pressing it, but brakes would bind, to lever grips only while almost fully squeezed, but no binding.... Thanks in advance. BTW, i did the same procedure on clutch and rear break and working great with great pressure.
maybe a stupid question, but i cannot find a top bleed nipple on the 999... there is just a large black screw inside each reservoir but that seems to be a bolt keeping the reservoir in place. can someone post a picture or let me know where the top nipple is?
Thanks, that didn't look like a bleed nipple, thus i didn't know... does it bleed differently than the bottom ones? doesn't seem to be a hole in it?
You have probably done it by now but just loosen it half a turn and gently pump it. No need to tighten/slacken as its submerged . I would do the clutch whilst your on . Its just the same.
If brakes are sticking on, as I read you post, its not air that the problem but maybe pistons not returning. If so remove calipers, take out pads, pump pistons out a bit and clean off crud. If there's air in the system you will have slack at the lever as you put brakes on before they start to bite.
Thanks for all your input, I have bled the bottom and top nipples now, and the brake and the clutch are VERY tight, i have never seen the front brake that tight before! takes about a millimetre to fully engage it. They do lock in a bit and stay locked a little, i'll have to clean the callipers when i have some time properly.
just thought i'd report back as some time has passed. since bleeding both the top / bottom of the brakes / clutch, i've not had the issue of lost pressure come back for a good few months now.
