Fuel Level Sender

Discussion in 'Wanted' started by densel16, Jul 8, 2014.

  1. Arter a fuel level sender. Mine has never worked and I have ran out of fuel 3 times. Anyone?

  2. For which bike ?

  3. Guess it's the 996 on his profile.
The senders rarely come up for sale on their own (from what I've seen) I suggest a new fuel pump assembly.

  4. Sorry JR, it's a 996.

  5. Do what everyone else with SSs seem to do............Fill up, re-set the trip meter to 0 and fill up again at 100 miles.

  6. Replace it. Easy job. Buy a new one. I ran out of petrol too many times winging it this way. Buy new, dont mess around. Theyre not hugely expensive although I cannot remember how much I paid for mine in my 916.

  7. swatido...:upyeah:

  8. Dont listen to them otherwise like I you will find yourself on the hard shoulder at 2am phoning the AA. Replace and forget. The job takes about 1hr.

    • undo tank retaining bolt at front of seat
    • prop up rear of tank with a bit of wood (i use my rubber mallet head) and disconnect fuel hoses
    • remove tank and place upside down on nice soft thingy
    • undo 3 retaining bolts for sender unit
    • use these 3 bolts in the other 3 blank threaded holes to remove sender by screwing them in a bit per screw to gently ease the old sender out.
    • install is the reverse.

  9. Obviously haven't done an SS for a while, then......;)

Or if you have, pop down here and do mine that easily, will ya?

  10. Oh. Its an SS. Thought it was for a 996. Oops.

  11. Well, the OP's seems to be a 996......

......but I'm b*ggered if I'm going to try and change my sender.........:)

  13. If you van do a 916 one in an hour without fucking the O ring you are indeed 3rd Dan Ducati Spanner Ninja...:pompus:

  14. The thing is you don't need to remove the whole pump assembly, the sender just slides out after undoing the plastic nut and the wires are long enough to be parted when removed.
Trick is not to over tighten the nut when replacing the unit as they are so so brittle, better still is to replace the nut with one of Final Editions ally ones while your at it.

  15. I did mine in 45mins. I'm a 4th Dan Ducati Don. (actually cant remember the time but it was quick as I was off up north afterwards)

Its an easy job. FFS. A damn site easier than those effin copper nuts on the zorsts. Or that goddamn lambda under the swingarm. Or that fucking little nut and bolt on the 1198 EXV bracket. Or....

£106!! I dont remember it being that pricey. I bet theres a Fiat unit that will do the trick.

  16. Got a 996. I am a mechanic and have already took out the pump unit because I had to seal the tank. Having trouble getting the nut off the sender as it keeps spinning, and yes I've already ordered a nut off FE. Any joy on a fiat part?

  17. Ps I use a slight smear of runner grease to install the pump seal.
