Fuel Tap Filter

  1. Not quite a Ducati but it's near enough...

Just set out for a run the other day when the teenager's Cagiva Mito Evo (2004) stopped. It then started again ran for a bit and stopped again. Luckily we weren't far from home so I managed to start it, got as fast as I could and rolled the rest of the way home.

I fugured that it was a fuel issue so cleaned the carb (that was fine) then had a look in the tank where the fuel resembled a cup of black tea. I pulled the fuel tap off, cleaned that and have flushed the tank out. (The inside will be sealed at some point).

However, the problem I now have is that there's a small tubular filter on the tap inside the tank that's deformed presumably as a result in being blocked by the fine rust and I'm buggered if I can find one similar.

It's a push fit, plastic, 10mm dia and about 44mm long but those in all of the usual places seem to have threaded ends or are the wrong size.

Do any Ducati's have something similar and if so, where can I get them?

    Thanks

  2. A picture might help, I know that earlier Mito fuel tank feed and filter was the same as fitted to some Kawasakis although these, of course, might also be "obsolete"/unobtainium by now.
As far as i'm aware Cagiva didn't use this fine filter arrangement on any Ducati but will await other replies.

EDIT - are you talking about something like this?:-

  3. If its the plastic long filter with a perforated end they are available and as Chris mentioned Kawasaki used them I remember replacing one on a kh250 I rebuilt, can’t think where I got it,

  4. from (hazy) memory, above filter was threaded though?

  5. Very similar but without the threaded end, it just pushes in, picture below

  7. Thanks for the responses.
I'd seen that diagram and while you can see the filter, there isn't a reference shown and I have trawled through most of the bay of E and may end up trying to butcher a threaded one. I hadn't thought about buying a complete tap though, that may be an option
Oh the joys of rare, 17 year old 125s (it's great when it's running though !)

  8. from vague memory, I think it's "marc and sophie" that I used to find extremely helpful but it looks like they've had to concentrate on other marques to stay afloat:-

  9. Is there a manufacturers name on the fuel tap, other than Cagiva obviously? You could try searching via that if there is. FYI there’s an in-line filter very similar to that on a Peugeot Speedfight Scooter I have, you may need to look at other things than motorbikes.
