With surgery to repair a damaged flexor tendon receptor looming on the horizon, I have decided to build my new 748RS based 853 engine for next year, now. I have 2 ex works engines to use as donors so the current 748 (RS) engine in the bike will be surplus to requirements. I have used () around the RS because although I know the engine has titanium rods, HC pistons, R valves, RS cams and belt pullies and an RS close ration box, it looks like it only has a stock crank which I am told is not uncommon as it improves torque. Don't shoot me down if that is bollocks, I am only repeating what I have been told by a source I am happy to believe. Running 848/1098 injectors and rev limited to 10,750 rpm, the engine is making a healthy 120 hp and 59 lbs.ft torque and has done two and a half days at Cartagena and half a day at Brands on the Indie circuit. Happy to sell assembled with starter motor but less clutch and throttle bodies or break for parts. Anyone looking for a project ? Andy
Although I bought what I thought was a genuine RS engine in good faith for £2500, I cannot in all good conscience pass it off as anyhing other than a load of RS bits put together, even if it hasn't missed a beat except for a misting leak from an old head gasket which MRs replaced after Brands. I have no idea what it's worth but I was hoping for around £1500 aithough I'm open to be told I'm dreaming . Andy
