Gear Change Connector Spline

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by ck_uk, Aug 3, 2024.

  1. Hi all,

Is there some trick to getting the splined gear change connector to sit fully home?

The splines all seem to be in good condition.

It seems to go on ok initially then just gets stuck. Perhaps there's a way of prying it open a little?
I don't want to be hammering it into place or damaging the splines as that will end in a world of hurt I'm sure.

  3. Yeah, it's the bolt, it sits within the opening when it's in. It rests in that groove going round the spline.

In addition though, the splines get all sorts of muck in them, which over time build up and make it hard to push on. So give it a good clean whilst it's off if you haven't already.

  4. As has already been said take the bolt out and clean the splines. I have had similar issues in the past and have used a largeish screwdriver to gently open the gap a tiny ammount. My theory on why this is a problem is the rear set of splines do not have a lead in chamfer, the front do, and the effect of being pulled together by the bolt could cause some permanent set in the clearence between the two.

    Just my 2p thoughts!
