1200 Gear Lever Play

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Beef, Aug 14, 2022.

  1. Bit of a long one….
Went for a ride yesterday without earplugs & I could hear a whooshing sound like a turbo/blower (but quieter) coupled with my gear shifting seeming to be getting notchyer I was thinking I had some gearbox problems.
Today I put the bike on the centre stand and ran it up through the gears.
The whine sounds like it’s coming from the belts - which makes sense & as I’ve only ever ridden with plugs in. I assume this is a normal noise?

Looking at the linkage, there is so much play in the bush/mount for the lever that it’s no wonder I find neutral everywhere!
I’ve had a search & a Google, is there an aftermarket bush upgrade kit available or am I looking at something like Palmer products or CNCRacing
Off to Picos in Sept, hoping to have it sorted by then!

  2. Would strongly advise against the Palmer Products gear lever, I tried one and it’s utter crap

  4. 0403ED0E-8A79-42A3-AEC6-D25B70BB5214.png I went onto eBay a while back and bought some stainless steel shim washers, correct bore and outer diameter, that fit behind and inside(onto) the gear-lever centre bolt. Took 90/95% of all the play out.

  5. Thanks Shoboshi,
    That’s helped a lot
Still stiff on changes & can be a pain finding neutral.

  6. You can remove the tightness you’re experiencing by putting a spacer washer on the inside part of the lever, between lever and frame, so to speak.
If I get time later, I’ll remove mine, take pics and show you what I’ve done. In doing so, you keep the lever waggle(side to side) to a minimum, making the shift more positive in feel.
    I’ll pm pics.
