Evening all ! Had a lovely ride out into the Surrey countryside today, including the obligatory blast through the Hindhead Tunnel on the A3 since it was such a nice afternoon I hadn't ridden the Mutley for a while and it was a nice change up from my daily hack, a XT660R. I thought I'd wear my TCX Infinity boots today for a change and as a result found gear changing a little more awkward than usual. The position of the gear lever doesn't seem to fit that well with 'off-road' type boots. Has anybody developed a different shifter, I checked Touratech and they haven't developed one yet, for £500 a pop ! PP
Probably mate, I'm very slow ! Seriously, red 1200s, Black Uvex Enduro lid, Furygan leathers. Was that the bike you saw ? PP
It was a red multi alright, but I didn't notice owt else. I was doing about 95, so don't feel too put down!
You were doing 95 on a private road weren't you pal ? I've never seen a Combo van speeding on my travels before....... PP
I'm sure I've seen a really nice adjustable replacement lever somewhere but buggered if I can remember where now.....thought it might have been Rizoma but checked their website and it wasn't :-( Have a look at: Avanti Race Parts - Ducati Parts and Accessories for Road and Race Motorcycles. There must be a certain amount of adjustment in the standard gear/brake levers, before you resort to the aftermarket, surely? I'm sure it's nice to add a bit of bling to personalise your bike, but generally speaking the standard stuff will be higher quality.
I found that I had to raise both my gear change lever and the back brake lever. To me they seem set up in a sportsbike style i.e. angled quite far down to allow for a sportsbike like riding stance, which is really not what's needed on a multi. I adjusted the gear lever - it needed rotating on the spline by one notch, then a little fine tuning with the adjuster. The back brake is much better for the lever being raised a little (via the lever stop screw). now I don't need a treble jointed ankle to get the rear abs to kick in...... just my thruppence worth...
Thanks for all the tips Gents. Adjusting both the gear and brake levers was the next step in the challenge before sourcing new ones ! It will have to wait until later in the week now, work needs to be done PP
