When my 853 was fired up for the first time it cooked the generator, 2 wires open circuit only 1 with resistance. MY2000 RS geneators are unsurprisingly unavailable so I intend getting this one rewound. Anyone used West Country Windings in Harlow or know of another that could deal with a one off ? Thanks, Andy
If you read one post from another member here he stated they were not up to what he expected, presumably from past experience. I had reason to contact them about another bike rebuild I was undertaking and they seemed competent enough based on my discussion over the phone, but fortunately on testing my electrics I did not require any work . I know of no others that can currently do the job, so I guess if anyone (any\enough posters on this forum) can confirm that they are or have used them and are happy with their work then I would give them a try. Otherwise I would consider proceeding with a degree of caution based on the one reply posted on here.
Condition looks pretty good although I'm not sure about the use of 3 bond. 1 core apparently got quite hot. Got a line on a local bloke who offers bespoke one off solutiions so I'll pop down and have a chat with him before giving WCW a call. Thanks for the help guys, as always much appreciated. Andy
Local bloke had never seen anything like it and really didn't want the job. I spoke to a very nice sounding and knowledgable lady at WCW who was able to accurately describe the stator over the phone and quoted just under £130 for a complete rebuild including VAT and return postage. If it hadn't been Christmas, they would normally do a 3 day turn around. I'll get it off in the new year and post feed back when it returns. Andy
We used westcountry windings when I worked at a dealership in Plymouth and always found them good and prompt.
We used them for a 748 generator last winter and new Reg purchased from them and both have been perfect ever since. Happy enough with their work
