1200 Getting At The Air Filter

  1. Is this an easy job or does the tank have to be removed? Just got back from the Black Forest and would like to check how dirty it is.

  2. The official rule is remove the tank, there is one bolt the is obstructed and a pita to get out, I managed to do it by removing bottom tank mounts and using a flexy extension and Allen key bit to remove the bolt

  3. I check and clean mine all the time.
It's really easy on the earlier bikes, but more difficult on the twin spark.
You need a flexible drive with the Allen or cap screw drive on the end.
You'll need to remove the rubber boots from the air tube and the right hand side inner fairing panel.
See the mts1200.info for the pictures and instructions..

  4. take care with the screws that hold the nozzle on. if you overtighten or get them to spin, you will need a whole new airbox which is a pain to fit as it goes over the top of the throttle assembly.
