Pulled away from the lights and she just fell off the back comedy style. Only a bruised bum as she fell quite well and we were only going 10mph or so. 899s really aren't pillion friendly. She had decent gear on as well though she didn't really test any of it. We've had a chat about holding on to me at all times. We are also gonna get some of those things that go around me for her to hold on to. One of those surreal things where you can't believe it happened but are sorta glad that you learned a lesson in a fairly harmless way. Could have easily been killed if it happened on a busier road or at higher speed.
A friends wife did the same from his 999 pulling from lights. Broke her back and took a long time to recover.
jesus. this was my worst fear with my wiff. I imagined her groin landing on the tyre and getting mangled into the hugger area!!! Ive taken pegs and seat off now, saving for an R9T
Just where is a ladies hugger area? I thought I knew my way round the female form, but ya live n learn
I don't take pillions! To be fair I've not come across anyone that actually wanted to get on the back with me riding yet haha Eitherway the pillion seat on the panigale looks like a form of torture
I bet she will laugh about it, eventually. I think you mean the things that are called love handles Pillion Grippers Love Handles Straps or a thicker set De-Lux Pillion Pal Black
She laughed about it straight away, we got back on and carried on with the days plans of having Thai food and buying baubles and cheese. All of which is probably why we work together and all that romantic jazz... It wasn't the actual thing that scared me it was all the things that could have happened to make it worse... I didn't learn to respect a bike until I crashed the first time and I haven't crashed since. I think I'm just a slow learner. Put your fingers in the socket to learn that electricity hurts kinda learner.
My Mrs used to love coming out on the bike until the little one arrived. One thing that did help was getting a grippy seat cover - something like triboseat on eBay. She wouldn't use the handles.
get her to put her hands in the pockets of ya jacket ( if ya have em) that works well. i came off the back of an xr500 years ago (no foot pegs legs dangling) My sister lived on a lil farm at the time and we were burning off some gorse, her boyfriend was riding the bike and I was on the back poring petrol from a can.. another mate had lit the petrol and the flame was chasing us, slowly mind, well slower than you'd imagine if you've never done it. Anyhu, he when over a jump and as he landed I was left standing, can in hand and flames approaching. Tbh there was big gaps in the petrol trail so there was no great danger but I was only about 13 and crapped me self, dropped the can and ran.
That's the reason I now ride a multi, missus loves it, she wouldn't go near my 899 hence the reason I never had the pillion pegs fitted and had a seat cowl fitted instead of that ridiculous "seat" glad she's okay and saw the funny side
I always hug the rider that way I don't get left behind kerps you warm too Pillioned on the 996 and hung on tight
Same for me - other half used to love going on the back until kids came along now she wont go near it....
When I was 16 i had a little Yamaha TZR 50 and my mate use to go everywhere with me on the back. One day was at some lights and pulled away, next thing i look in my mirrors and he's leggin it down the road after me. He used to put his legs down when we came to a stop but only this time i razzed off too quick for him.
You can buy clip on bars that fix to the tank filler cap , miles better than the wobbly handle shite belt things. The bars also stop them sliding forward under braking
