I am thinking of getting a top box for my Multi but have got confused when trying to decide which one. I have read previous posts on the forum on this subject and was seriously thinking of going down the Givi route. Do any of you guys who use the Givi have any observations. I'd be interested to know or see what the fitment rack looks like on the bike when the top box isnt fitted as some previous posts suggest it doesnt look too good. If that's true are there any other options with racks which look better, but that will also accept a Givi.
Here you go. Standard MTS1200 Givi monokey rack without topbox..... I use my trusty Givi topbox which has now been on three different bikes over the past 12 years ! Works a treat. PP
Thanks for the suggestions chaps. Pictures and links are very helpful. I will also check out the SW Motech quick lock racks. This topbox malarky is new territory for me having always had sportsbikes and used rucksacks/ventura luggage so all info is gratefully received.
SW motech rack plus 3 x GIVI 46L trekker quit some capacity... never intruded on the riding grtz Koen
I've got a similar dilemma. I know the Trekker ones fit with the look of the bike but they are really big... I'd like one about half that size I'm also confused my Monokey, mono lock etc. Basically I just want a small top box something like one of these, that I can throw a few bits in and my wife will be able to use as a backrest if she ever decides to go out on the back. I know this is designed for scooters but I don't rally feel the need for anything bigger at the moment Givi E300 White Top Box (30 Litre) & Universal Monolock .. - Motorbikes and Parts - Givi / Kappa Motorcycle Luggage Specialists - givi-e300-white-top-box-30-litre-universal-monolock-plate-p-23494.html It looks a bit basic (but it's chew) and although I prefer the smaller size it doesn't haver a back rest Otherwise this is a bit better styled, but it's a lot bigger (and more expensive) Givi B47 Blade Tech 47 Litre Monolock Topbox - £149.80 - Motorbikes and Parts - Givi / Kappa Motorcycle Luggage Specialists - givi-b47-blade-tech-47-litre-monolock-topbox-p-25224.html
I had the same problem / need; want a small topbox / backrest for the missus most of the time, and a bigger one when I go away. That's how I ended up with SW Motech quick lock rack - 'cos you can swap between a monokey and a monolock plate in 2 minutes flat. As a rule of thumb, smaller Givi boxes are monolock and the larger ones are monokey - they are not interchangeable without changing the base plates, which is where the SW Motech idea is so good. You buy the bike rack, and the mounting plate(s) of your choice. The plates swap easily with 3 half turn screws, and obviously you only have to buy the plates (and boxes) once. If you change bikes you need a new bike specific Motech rack, but everything else is re-useable.
Thanks for helping with that, I've got a rack that was on the bike when I bought it (since removed), it's the same as the one on the 2nd post. I thought the Trekker 33L one was really just one of the side panniers? The problem with that is it's too low and wide. I want a taller, narrower box. I've seen some of the smaller BMW's with one that looks ideal but I can't seem to track this down.
As Columbo used to say................"just one further question" In the pictures I have seen the SW Motech plate that accepts the Givi Monokey looks to have different connections for the back of the Topbox than the Givi plate. Is that the case? (no pun intended).
I have a Givi topbox and universal mount that I'd be willing to sell if you're interested MR? If so, drop me a PM and I'll send you more details.
Koen, I like your boxes, any chance you can fill us in on the parts that you used? Which SW frames exactly, adaptors etc etc. Chap I spoke to said you cannot put the trekker boxes on the mutley???? Also the top box? Muchly appreciated)
my pleasure these are the 33 LTR trekkers but the SW motch system is included.. GIVI TRK 33 N Trekker Seitenkoffer + Evo Träger DUCATI 1200 Multistrada | eBay you can order the top and side cases online... but look for local givi dealer and he might get you the frameset.. the top box Givi TRK 33 Trekker Koffer + Alu Rack Ducati 1200 Multistrada A2 2010- | eBay comes with the plate big advantage of the ystem is that it can be taken off with 1 simple twist... almost nothing of the frame remains on the bike then... as you can see on the GIVI website, they now have a topbox of 52L that will hold 3 full face helmets ( 2x C3's) next to each other... I haven them all on 1 key of which i have 4 copies.. it is so easy to put on , even the most unhandy nitwit can do it. I'm living proof! the chap surely is wrong or he should be referring to the bigger mufffler you got on... there is also a tankbag T491 ring system that complements the trekker.. i' have one i am converting to a foto bag... around this bag sits a string of littel holders for money, cards, key, phone that comes off easily... not to expensive at 100 euro and not to big to block all sight on the clock and GPS's the Multey is in now for the last fitments ( Z8's, Ohlins springs, bar/handprotectors, GPSmount/ holder, DP mirrors...) I'll post a full pic thread when it will all be mounted... good luck with the buy Koen
