1200 DVT Good Things About Your Multi......

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by nkibble, Jul 5, 2015.

  1. I'm not a current Ducati owner, but I'm seriously considering the new MTS.

I'll be honest though that I've been put off a bit by the issues you guys have raised without anything being fixed yet.

Then someone rightly said, "but these are minor issues so if you're holding back maybe you shouldn't buy this bike"

You're right. I need to man-up and get down to the local dealer.

In the meantime though, I think you guys could do with posting the great things you're doing with your bike - so newbies like me can see how much you're enjoying your fantastic bikes, and will be inspired to buy one.

A lot of words to basically say:
How about using this thread to post what you've done to your bike, where you've been on it, etc. As many photos as possible too please. :upyeah:

  2. Read Tobers recent wales trip, or the guy that just did Europe on his. Plenty there if you look :)

Alas they tend to be threads about something, which say how great the bike is. The moaners just start with 'my forks is broke, not fit for purpose! Grrrrrr' so its kinda obvious

  3. If I'd have listened to all of the horror stories I wouldn't be riding my old 2010 multi. Just do it, that's what a warranty is for. Awesome bike and that's not even the DVT which, from what I hear, is even better.

  4. I thought Tobers post was great, Bradders.

Just wondered if it would work to have a thread that focuses on the good stuff people are doing to their bikes. Seen it done in other bike forums and it works well.

  5. This morning I set off on my MTS with my buddy on his GS, we headed for Abergaveny bus station for sausage sandwhiches tea, and of course have a look at all the other machines there today. abergaveny is a well known meeting point for riders on the weekend as it links to some great roads around this part of the World.Whilst there a white MTS arrived and I had a good look over it and chatted to its owner. Like me he has only clock 300 miles so far, we discussed the differences between my standard and his S and I noted he had some awesome wheel red decals which set the machines look off very nicely. He did mention that he like the skyhook suspension and made the point that when you brake, the nose of the bike does not dip, thats something I. Had not thought of. Anyway after wishing each other well I set off home and we had a good ride through Monmouth and Tintern. All in all a nice way to spend a Sunday Morning. As for any issues with the MTS they are all minor and it should not put you off.:upyeah:

  6. Perhaps you should change the title of the thread then so it doesn't get confused with a similarly titled thread that's been on the go from day one, @nkibble

  7. Ah! Apologies. Didn't know you already had one.

  8. So I amended the title for you ;)

  11. Hello

I went to my 2011 MTS a few months ago (second hand). I owned a Versys 650 before that. I can understand that there are things out there that can spoil it BIG TIME for some people and its perfectly understandable. It's an expensive bike so the argument "if you get depressed by a few niggles maybe it's not the bike to own" is tossed out the window for me. At the same time, I perfectly understand people that think this way, but guys, don't use it as an argument. It's really not.

Now, pardon my rant, on to the good stuff. I'll try to be as objective as possible, therefore I will only list the things that I believe are good beyond personal bias.

    Brakes.
Dear me .... Given good traction, this thing can stop a train. And the feel is great too. You can really play with the lever and feel the difference by the mm. Here in Greece, where the roads are awful it's not better than any other bike with good brakes. But put it on the track and .... it just doesn't let down. Immense stopping power with very nice progressive feel.

    Handling
Goes like a train, again. You just set it, and it turns. And it feels solid when it does. I had a few near disasters on our awful Greek tarmac but the bike corrected itself every single time. It can sway from one side to the other just like any sport bike. if not better (largely thanks to its wide bars).

    Size
It's a VERY compact bike for its class. Everything seems very nicely packed. There are no bits protruding, no hanging stuff, no thing out of place. It's a very tight package. This gives it two things: awesome looks (which is a very personal thing) and unprecedented practicality in the city. I do a lot of riding in heavy slow traffic and it's a very maneuverable bike. It's almost as good as the Versys in that regard. And it's 1200cc. It's also very light (at least the 2011 model. The DVT has parted from that, although I hear that it still is a very easily steered bike).

    Performance
I can talk for ages on that. It just propels itself at any gear, to speeds I could not imagine. And that's after just 2000 rpm. If you really want a blast, kick down two gears at 140 km/h, and enjoy the catapult. It's just ... well.... bloody quick.

    Dash
It's a marvel. Even on that model. Everything is where it should be. It's clear and full of info without being cluttered.

    Comfort
I can comment only on myself here but it's very comfortable (the seating position and stance, as well as the seat itself). It's also good as far as wind is concerned (with the original large windshield).

    Electronics
I don't have the S model, so I cannot say anything about the electronics controlling the suspension, but for the rest, they are very well thought out. The different maps really make a difference and can give you a very nice helping hand when the conditions are bad (The "urban" mode, really helps in bad asphalt on a rainy day). However, after some time with the bike, I just have it on "sport". I would change it to something more docile only if travelling long distances in heavy rain (which I sometimes do). Traction control can be a bit harsh at times but as many other things you just learn it.

There are negatives as well, of course. But it's a matter of a personal opinion rather than real problems (I'm not talking about malfunctions).
Hope you get one. You'll definitely enjoy it.

  12. I haven't finished running mine in, and it's already the best bike I've ever ridden. Power, even while limited to 7000RPM, handling (change lines in a corner? Sure, where to?), brakes, general responsiveness. It's a heavy bike by modern standards, but the weight just melts away when you start rolling. I've even started using the cruise control, which works exactly as it should.
Comfort? After 3 years away from biking, I did a two-up weekend of several hundred Km, with no pain, discomfort or "are we there yet?"

Sure, there are drawbacks. The only significant one for me is that the roads here are so boring. At least it's only a couple of hours to the borders, the motorways mostly have 130Km/h limits, and she _eats_ those :)

  15. Sorry ExKat, I have to agree, I found the roads in the Amsterdam area a bit of a nightmare, seems to be traffic lights every 100yards, just as you think you are moving another set grinds you to a halt. We usually now hit the E19 as soon as possible and head South.

  17. All the towns are pretty bad like that, sadly. Fortunately for me, I live literally around the corner from an on-ramp to the A10 - so close I normally don't make it out of first gear until the ramp itself :)
