Google Scam

  1. Must be my turn today, connected my Android phone to the internet through WiFi this afternoon and almost immediately got a pop up with the dire warning that 25% of my phone is corrupted by 4 viruses because I've been viewing porn sites. All I need to do is download this wonder app .......... yeh right, think I was born yesterday ? Had a really good look at the pop up that purported to be from Google and it was very realistic but quite obvious that it was fake. Checked my e-mails just now on the iPad and blow me I've got a transfer that should be arriving soon and I need to open this .zip file that is attached ......... I can see how someone unawares or not paying attention gets caught. Andy

  2. Bastards aren't they

  3. Browser hijacking is a big problem now, I have had to purchase some software to sort this problem out in the last few days as my browser was going haywire.

I purchased Spyhunter and it found no less than 617!!! scripts and programs that have downloaded from infected sites at various times. This site "appears" to be one of them as when I used a different browser this site and a couple of others seem to be showing some attached infections at the time.

V9 was one of them and I have encountered that before and that can cause some havoc. This has nothing to do Google or anything else as any site you visit will probably have it and others roaming about.

Google Chrome seems to be the worst browser for being infected. I now use Firefox and it's very stable.

  4. Create a new user in Windows with administrative rights and login with that after a reboot.

Install Spybot search and destroy and run that.

Go through installed programs and delete anything you don't know or want.

After a reboot you won't be left with much if any crap.

Log back in with your original user and clear and reset all browser settings and delete all history and cache.

Spybot search and destroy is free.

  5. I would recommend backing data up onto an external HDD before using SpybotSearch&destroy. As it is a very powerful piece of software that you could easily remove important windows files needed for booting.

  6. Always worth a backup. Couldn't agree more.

Although I never had an issue with S&D, that's not to say others have not.

  7. Spybot also deletes application files that are not recognised. We prevent users running it now.

  8. Some scams are well constructed and hard to spot. Yesterday I had a scam email which wasn't, it was asking me to log onto PayPai.com to confirm my details - they used an upper case I to try and make it look like an L but used a font which clearly showed it as an I...

  9. I have been getting emails recently saying I have a package arriving and there is always an attachment to open - I do get a lot of packages from time to time but mainly from UPS so they didn't correspond with an expected delivery. I just delete the emails no matter who they appear to be from.
