brought the multi out off Hybernation, checked all the fluids & the oil was half way up the glass, went for short run approx 10miles came back & the oil is barely in the glass & it seems to be green & have yellow muck/scum inside of glass now, considering the bike is less than 12 months old & only done 1200 miles is this something I should be on the phone about??
You need to do journeys of a lot more than 10 miles to heat the oil to evaporate any moisture in the oil which is normal. If you have Motul 300V oil, that is fluorescent green in colour to start with. I suggest you go for a blast and on your return undo and remove the oil filler cap until the bike cools down and don’t forget to put it back in. Andy
It's fine, ride it further & faster. I always allow my enduro engine to warm up to 70-80degrees before setting off. Takes 3-4minutes of idling'
Well.....I went out today did about 100miles & when I got back there was nothing in the glass at all so went to the dealer in my car brought 1ltr bottle of recommended oil & put it all in & nothing still in the glass My bad.....I mis heared the bloke at dealers I put litre in on side stand, so when I stood bike up right it went to max line Good job I didn’t put a second litre in as it only holds 3 litres from dry.
From new, engines tend to use oil until run in. At 1200 miles, your engine is nowhere near run in yet. Time and patience and keep your eye on it and always check your oil level whilst the engine is still warm. Ideally between the two marks but definitely below the top mark. Modern Ducatis do not like being overfilled. Andy
I don't think any bikes like being overfilled. I've found it often results in odd gearbox behaviour - missed gears, unable to get into neutral etc. My 1260S had it's 1st service last Tuesday and I recon they've put 300V in it - the spy glass now glows nuclear green. Unrelated, my old 916 used to use a fair bit of oil, but that was all down to me. Whenever I popped a 3rd-gear-minger and kept it going for 300 yds, by the time the front wheel was back down there would be oil running all over the side of the fairing where it had blown out of the breather. It used to create a right mess. Never stopped me pulling wheelies though.
Never seen a bike that shouldn't have to be vertical when checking the oil. Make sure the front wheel is straight too as that will make a difference on the "balance point" telling you if said bike is vertical. Some bikes need checking on a cold engine, others after running for a minute/2 and letting to cool for 5 mins. You need to check your manual (sorry).
I never said I overfilled it, I said I put 1litre in on the side stand & it brought it to the max line when I levelled the bike If it was a bad thing to fill it to the top line why have it so high up the glass
I don't think anyone said you'd overfilled it, just saying to be wary if you fill it whilst not vertical. It looks spot on to me. And it does look like 300V too. It's all good bro.
