Anyone know if a pair of cans from a monster will fit my 2006 GT1000, I dont mind making new hangers but wonder if the bend on the end of the headers will be the same?
My take on it for what its worth..... If the diameter of the header pipes are the same as whatever you are connecting to.....and you should find some SS stuff will fit as well.......then logically you have a good idea that they could well fit....... ....however, whichever end cans etc you go for, it seems as though you will probably need some link pipes, depending which route you want to go (high level or OEM level)..... ....my advice is if you need link pipes, make sure the cans aren't the fixed type.....otherwise you are almost certain to be making new hangers and turning end-caps as well..... ....so if you are going to start a lot of work on cans, you may want to consider these people and make your own.... Carbon Fibre, Stainless & Titanium Tubes and Performance Motorcycle Exhaust parts in Lincolnshire, UK If it is worth a thought, my SS cans were made by Laser.......they are about 450mm long by 98.2mm I/D....there is a single perforated pipe straight through the centre between the entry and end caps.....no baffles and simple glassfibre packing aroung the perforated pipe. Apparently my cans aren't that loud and if I changed the aluminium outer for carbon fibre they would be a much deeper tone. AL
Some owners in the US liberated more sound by drilling holes in the baffle of the standard pipes. Not sure if the Monster pipes will fit, but I'm sure someone can advise. My GT1000 had Termis on it when I bought it, but I'm not sure if Termis are still available. Could be worth checking ebay or looking to see if anyone is selling kit on the Ducati.ms site. Keihan & Staintune both make silencers for the GT1000, might be worth a look at their websites too. Good luck!
The Keihins will be quiet, maybe less so than stock, but, quieter than I would like. I have seen a pair of intermediate pipes on 'the bay' for a monster, I have considered getting those and then fitting some british 'silencers' from a commando or BSA, I would like to respect its classic lines and feel modern cans may bugger that up. However, the intermediate pipes end with a 2'' bore, The biggest brit pipes I can see are 1 3/8. Staintunes are sold by Sportouring in the UK. Not cheap though: Sportouring Bike Accessories There is a pair of damaged Termignoni silencers on ebay (in the US). I haven't looked too closely at the advert, but didn't spot any mention of the ecu that should come with the Termi kit. I have taken delivery of a pair of 'FUEL open stainless cans today for a 1000 monster and THEY FIT, without the db killers they sound ACE, with them in they sound not much louder than the stockers. The intermediate pipes can be fitted with the cans at a similar angle to stock OR at a more upswept angle. I let her tick over until she read 80 degrees and gave her a few big handfuls, WOW.
