Hard Wiring A Sat Nav Issue

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Android853sp, Mar 16, 2018.

  1. I have hard wired the voltage step down box (12v to 5v) to a connector that matches the battery maintainer plug so I can connect and disconnect the power to the sat nav as required. Double checking my work I can get continuity from the negetive to the sat nav charging mount but the positive is open circuit. Done all the usual, checking my soldered joints and fuses but nothing. Does the voltage step down box do something that requires the sat nav to be in its charging mount or is my brand new power supply lead provided with the sat nav mounting kit fubarred ? Andy

  2. Well the positive side has got electronics in-between it's input and output sides so you won't see continuity but when the input is plugged into the battery connector you should see 5V across the wires at the output side. If don't either your connections are dodgy or the 12V - 5V adaptor is goosed.
