This is a follow up on the last thread regarding 'over heat' (126 degrees) on my 999 . How to find out where the coolant went and how it got into the oil ? There are only two options - head gasket or water pump seal . First tested the compression on both cylinders, the vertical very, very low. Seems to indicate the gasket blown ? Wrong. Take the head off that cylinder and surprise surprise not the gasket but all four valves badly seating and leaking. Has been for some time as plenty of 'burn' on the seats. Easy fix lapping in. Second problem in that head is the very worn exhaust valve rocker - all the white metal gone -needs replacing. All now points to the bearing behind the impeller on the water pump which after removal is the culprit as its knackered.. We did pressurize the heads but due to the bad valve seating it was impossible to ascertain a blown gasket. I suppose I am saying that technically this was a hard vault to identify, has turned up other faults that had laid hidden and been very expensive ! Hmmm
