Headlamp upgrade - Issues!

  1. Ok, I'm 1/2 way through upgrading my 1200S headlamps.
Stripped off all the upper fairings etc. One upper bolt sheared off...tiny bolt with locktite on it! Surprised this doesn't happen more often.

Philips Blue H11 Crystal vision for high beam, inside set - cost £34 delivered.
    Work fine, nice white light.

[h=1]Ducati Multistrada Canbus pro 1200S Xenon Hid Headlamp Conversion (seller ninjazx9rblue )[/h]This kit works fine, instructions are poor and it's NOT plug and play, as described on Ebay.
You have to take the + & - wires and cut off the original H11 plug, meaning that you'll need to resolder these if you ever want to return to standard H11. Not a good idea for a touring bike, as it would mean you'd have carry a spare HID bulb.
You could try jabbing the wires into the H11 orginal plug, but I'd be concerned on the reliability of this. All they needed to do was supply a matching H11 socket to pick up the power. It's why I went with this kit...Plug n play.
If you truely desire (as I did) a plug and play kit avoid this one.

Well now the Crystal vision bulbs look yellow compared to the plasma, but I'll let you know what I think after it gets dark.

Currently modifying to get low beam to stay on with high beam.
AndyW thank you for your excellent advice page.

  2. Does anyone know of a supplier of a plug that is an exact mimic of the H11 bulb? Once I have this I'll be able to make my hid kit reliable And quickly replaceable with a standard H11 should the hid fail when touring.

  3. Oh... Now thanks to AndyW, I've low beam always on when high beam selected. This is a must have mod for hid lamps.

  4. I can confirm that jabbing the wires into the factory "loom to bulb" connection is not satisfactory, as originally pointed out. Despite numerous communications and a free set of bulbs and more wires than I know what to do with the supplier cannot come up with a solution. Getting desperate I've killed a perfectly good H11 bulb and with some skilled cutting, grinding and soldering made up a lead.
I've now got a true plugnplay HID headlamp.
