Helibars Throttle Cable Issues

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Redblur, Jun 15, 2014.

  1. Hi folks,
I have had a set of helibars fitted to my 2005 999 and have a problem with the bike revving on full right lock. I have adjusted the bump stop to limit the lock to minimise this but it hasn't fully cured the problem and I now struggle even more than I did with U- turns!
Has anyone else had, and overcome this problem?
I wondered if the cables could be adjusted/re-routed to the right of the headstock instead of the left/ replaced with longer cables from another Ducati model (or any bike)??
    Any ideas gratefully received.
    Cheers all,

    RB

  2. Have you played with the adjusters for the cables? Under the rubber covers by the headstock. Also have a look at the routing for the fast idle lever cable, make sure it is not being trapped by all the wires it has to pass through.

  3. Check the routing of the fast idle cable down the LHS of the headstock as Chris mentioned. There's a flat plate, for want of a better description, that the cable can drop under. This is quite common on 999/749 regardless of which bars are fitted. Simply route it over the plate.
If that doesn't cure it, it can sometimes be necessary to rotate the throttle housing to route the throttles better.

  4. Thanks for all replies chaps. I did have a quick fiddle with the top one of the two adjusters. Slackened it off but it just resulted in the throttle twist grip staying where it was when turned and released - rather than snapping closed as before. Will check fast idle cable routing as suggested and if all else fails will check kindly suggested link for cables. Didn't expect any issues as destructions for bars only mentioned tweaking brake line banjo bolt + had no probs when similar bars fitted to earlier 900 ssie.
    Thanks again guys.

  5. Chrisw / Nelly,

Just fired the bike up and, sure enough, if I lift the fast idle cable up and turn bars to the right - no revs increase! Result :).

Next step - adjust the lock to a useful amount again - recheck fast idle cable and if the fix still works, cable-tie the FI cable upwards to something or other to achieve a permanent fix.
    Thanks again fellas.

  6. If you need to reroute the fast idle cable, take the left bar switch apart. Remove the fast idle lever and cable. Route it where you want. Reassemble.

  7. Chris,

Done! Cable re-routed and revving issue solved :).

I owe you a foaming pint.

    Thanks again.
