Help From D16rr Owners

  1. Hey everyone,

A special day has come and I have an opportunity to buy a Desmosedici D16RR. It is my dream bike and could use some help from the forum.

Here are some of the details
    • #243/1500
    • 5000mi on the bike
    • GP7 Exhaust and Fairings
    • Front and Rear OEM Stands
    • Stock Bellypan, tail fairing, and exhausts
    • Spare New Carbon BSTs
    • Spare Carbon Race bodywork
    • OEM Owners Manuals
    • Indoor Dust Cover and Case
We have agreed on $60k USD (50k GBP).
    • Thoughts on price?
    • Anything I should lookout for with the mileage?
    • Anything missing from the parts list?
    Thanks in advance everyone!

  4. Pass on this with my limited experience, but wasn't there some factory recalls on this model enginewise, if so just make sure they're carried them out.

  5. All recalls were done

  6. That's a cheap bike with the exhaust.

Are the wheels the originals on the bike and are the BST's 17"? As you will know the standard rear wheel size is 16" and the only road legal tyre ever made was by Bridgestone BT01, trying to get a rear is damn impossible so many fit a 17" rear to open up standard sizes.

With the standard exhausts you should have 2 ECU's also, there should also be a sticker kit so you could put sponsors logos of the period on if you were so inclined.

Also, you haven't listed it but there will be another number plate holder for the stock bodywork as it won't fit with the GP7 tail.

There isn't much to look out for, they do overheat like crazy so you need to keep them moving and get air through them, I fried a rectifier due to this, one mod I have seen is to mount the rectifier on the back of the LH radiator fan, but the fairing needs trimming to get it to fit, which is why I never did it.

Early bikes seemed to suffer from valve springs snapping, I know it's a Desmo but there's a spring in there somewhere, mine was done as a precaution. Likewise due to age the breather pipes in the tanks have started to break up so I've had mine replaced before it happened.

I assume it's got a full service history and everything is up to date, I'd probably be tempted to get it checked out by a knowledgeable dealer to give you some peace of mind.

  10. Working on getting that info as we speak!

  11. Well, I closed on the bike and it was delivered on Monday! The rocker springs and pistons are not the updated ones and have not been changed from my understanding. The bike has 4500 mi on it right now. Do these still need to be replaced with the updated ones? Any more information would be great from anyone that has experience.

  12. I guess for peace of mind it would be good to get the work done. To be fair mine didn't need replacing but my dealer said he would push the work through as warranty (many years ago now) and get it done to be on the safe side.
