Had this kicking around for a while and would like to know which bike it is off. Given where it came from, my initial guess is from a set of wide track racing forks, possibly off a 996RS. The outer thread is an M48 x 1.5 and the inner thread is an M40 x 1. The overall length is 59mm, the length of the outer cylindrical part including the thread is 40mm and the inner cylindrical part including the thread measures 29mm. Andy
I have a 748RS, magnesium triple clamp set up and the stem is a much smaller diameter. This large stem nut came on a pallet of spares I bought as a job lot with a couple of British Supersport 748RS engines from the 2001/2002 era of competition. I know the team ran the 996 in BSB but I’ve never seen wide track forks close up, hence my request for help. Andy
If you wouldn’t mind measuring, what is the diameter of the stem and the diameter of the hole in the top yoke ? Andy
Ah therein lies the problem, they're from Toselands WSB 996RS and not in my possession, they're up on ebay tho Andy, they may measure for you, in the mean time I will try to find the specs for those FG/R 's chief.
With a 48mm outer thread, is it not a fork cap? Inner 1mm pitch thread would be for the preload adjuster.
Haha I was always thinking of the fork cap, I looked at the piccies Andy provided before I read his post!
It looks like an ‘Adjustment Housing’, item 9, https://manualsbrain.com/en/manuals/782542/?page=21. Now need to sort out for which fork. Andy
Looks like a "special" extender item as the top shoulder is about 20mm where it would normally be 5-6mm. Googling show ohlins ones usually have graduation rings, so anyones guess who made these. Aprilia forums seem to have a few google referenced pics.
I know the team it most likely came from, ran Ducatis in the BSB back in 2002. I’ve gone through the Ohlins download archive looking at manuals for Superbike forks of that period and you could well be right. I think it’s destined for the scrap metal bin. Andy
