Hi guys. Time to see the power of an owners forum. I'm after some local info to Bristol for help with an issue on my bike. Basics are my MTS1200 is mid way through being shipped from Glasgow to Nice via Bristol. Upon loading onto stillage I found a small nail in my nearly new rear tyre. With no time left to get it fixed locally I've had to ship it with a temp plug that I inserted myself. After some thought today I would much rather it be repaired professionally or replaced. ( I know there are different feelings on this but I'm happy enough with a professional repair for now to try get me through this 2 week trip ) Issue is. Bike will be in Bristol at David Hathaway Transport. It's currently fully loaded with top box and panniers. I have keys here in Glasgow. Transport company are happy to assist with taking bike back off stillage and once sorted put back on if I can get it repaired on site. I need to either A. find a local mobile tyre repair to go out and repair the tyre either in situ or by taking wheel off. He would need to have the rear socket to take nut off & be able to work around the panniers Or To have the wheel taken off and taken somewhere locally to be repaired / fixed. So any local peeps to Bristol please either PM or throw me a text/call on 07947327926 if they can help with info. I've also emailed a handful of google'd local bike garages to see if they can assist. Tried calling riders Ducati today but service were constant busy when I called a few times. Thanks.
Hathaway is based more outside Wooton Basset isn't it ? Well, that's where I know their yard is down this way. From what I know there's a tyre place just about 5 miles away in Swindon. What's the timescales on this mate ? I can certainly help but I'm not exactly sure when. For Info, Louigi is over at the Manx (he was on Sunday), so not sure when he's back and about. But if the yard is where I expect it to be, he's about 45 mins from there.
Hatherways also have a yard down in Yate Weeksy or at least they did when I sent my bike to Portimao a few years ago. I've got a mushroom type repair kit that I've used on a few bikes with no problems at all (it's the same as used by tyre shops) and would be happy to help but I'm really stuck on time being 'daddy daycare' this week. If by a miracle your bike is in Wotton Bassett and not Yate I reckon I could get there and back to do it tomorrow when girls are at pony camp (3 hours). If that's of help let me know. Alternatively if someone else can make it my repair kit and compressor are available.
I've not personally used any of these , but some recommendations and contact details here if that helps Bike mechanic - Bristol - PistonHeads
Cheers guys. Looks like yard is Yate as below. FlyBikeFly.com c/o David Hathaway Transport Ltd Woodward Ave Yate Bristol BS37 5YS I'll try the number you lads have given me and thanks to the offers of assisting. I'll try the number then might have to ask. Bike will be in Yard until Monday but ideally Saturday.
ah, I'm afraid in that timescale I can't do much mate sorry, I'm away at Mallory tomorrow and not back till Fri night/Sat morning.
If it's there Saturday I may be able to help out as a last resort though as its a bit of a trek down there. However that said if your really up against it then I'll help. Just let me know.
Thanks guys. Think I'm now sorted hopefully. Rich at Luigi Moto was knee deep in work but passed on details of Lee from EMJ tyres who is attending tomorrow. Thanks for all your offers and help very much appreciated.
All sorted today folks. lee from EMJ tyres has saved the trip for me and taken the worry out of running with a temp plug. lee carries tyres in stock and is mobile around Bristol folks should anyone ever need his services. Van is fully fitted out with the correct tools and machines. Not sure if rules will allow blatant advertising for this but number can be supplied for Lee if requested guys. Again thanks to all for the kind offers and assistance.
Good stuff, shame about your tyre but a new one for a europe trip will give peace of mind. Now, check out the repair kit thread'
