Hello There British friends , i bought a 748 in britain a couple of years ago and brought back to italy my problem here is the red tape to RE -REGISTER the bike , my DVLA is asking the technical sheet of the bike , i have the original V5 in which there are both the numbers of the chassis and the engine , is there anybody out there who can help me through DUCATI UK to have that kind of data, because here in italy is an awful experience having what it looks like a piece of paper with the techical data of the bike . thanks to anybody who can help
Hi Markie, the technical sheet you speak of is the "certificate of conformity". These are provided by Ducati Italy through the Ducati dealer network. Your local dealer will have to examine the bike to check it is the same specification as one purchased in Italy (dipped headlight the correct side for Europe, oem exhausts, standard eprom). They will take photos of the bike together with a copy of the V5C and send this to Ducati Italy head office. The process can take a couple months.
My thought was having the coc through Ducati UK and making a sworn translation in Italian just to bypass the red tape
Is the bike in the UK or in Italy? Whoever does the coc process has to examine the bike. It's true that not all manufacturers do this, I got a KTM coc just by asking and sending photos, but Ducati insists to examine the bike...and charges €300 for the privilege.
I have imported bikes to the Uk from France & Italy. A registration document and "certificate of conformity” is all that is needed for importation and registration. I have never seen a UK "certificate of conformity”, but I guess they also exist as a legacy of EU membership conformity. I have always found Ducati Italy incredibly helpful identifying older bikes that may have changed spec in their lives.
As Italian I must admit that in Britain this kind of services are quicker and efficient ,you pay and you have a service whereas in Italy you pay and it looks like that they mock you ,they do everything to put sticks in your chariot on everything, I bought a couple of cars there in Britain pre brexit and I had no fuss whatsoever and I proudly ride them here in Italy ,Im proud of having a duke with a British plate even tho It will end to rest in my living room for good , this bike is British and will stay as that for ever!
